Top Plays
Kyle Larson – Larson put on a show in the xFinity race last night, thanks in part to an early exit by Kyle Busch. I think he is the fastest car this weekend, and I know he is one of the best drivers at Bristol. Look for the polesitter to lead a ton of laps and compete for a win.
Kyle Busch – It hasn’t been a great weekend for Kyle Busch, finding the wall in both series. However – Saturday night is all that matters. KB has one the last two Bristol races, and has the fastest short run car by far. I think it will be him vs Larson all night. Choose wisely.
Kevin Harvick – As much as I’d like to add some variety to the top plays section – the best is just the best. Harvick is the model on consistancy at Bristol, and this weekend shouldn’t be any difference. He starts 6th, and I don’t think he has the dominating potential of Larson and Busch, but he should get a top five. He is a good pivot off the top two,
Ricky Stenhouse Jr – It’s no secret that RSJ is a TANK at Bristol. It’s also no secret that he doesn’t really have the equipment to dominate. This makes is 12th place starting spot a little worrisome. However, he only costs $7800, so a top 7 with a few sneaky bonuses (fast laps and laps led) should allow him to hit value. Keep in mind, RSJ is super aggressive so this pick is no gimmie.
Worth Mentioning
I don’t mind Ryan Blaney or Erik Jones as middle of the road plays.
Value Plays
Alex Bowman – There is actually a ton of value this week, which should leave you room to squeeze in two dominators. Bowman tops my list of favorite value picks after an inspiring performance here in the Spring. He starts 22nd against top 15 practice times and top 10 skill.
Bubba Wallace – Bubba is just a grinder, man. He never has a great car, and he hasn’t had great luck but he is always grinding out serviceable finishes. This week should be no different. Bristol is one of his better tracks, and a 27th starting spot is nothing short of a gift. Look for Bubba to sneak into the top 15 at some point.
Ryan Newman – This is damn near a Top Play, because Newman is that damn good at Bristol. With only 2 finishes outside the top 20 since 2013, it is hard not to play Newman, who starts 24th.
Blake Jones – Punt of the day, thanks mostly to a 40th place starting spot. the 23 car usually attempts to finish the race, and the war of attrition should put Jones around 30th. Good enough for me.
