RAIN IS IN THE FORECAST – SO CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES
Tires will be destroyed and money will be made this week as we head down to Atlanta. This week the Sway Bar will be a short and sweet airport edition – but I assure you the info will be as good as ever. As always, the research is just getting started, so think about getting signed up and get exclusive access to our projection model, the domination station lineup optimizer, and most importantly, direct chat room access to some of the sharpest NASCAR minds in the industry. I will be on there all weekend updating everyone on my research.
Top Plays
Martin Truex Jr – This is damn near a no brainer. MTJ has a super fast machine this weekend and will roll off second to last. Atlanta has been good to him in the past, and we all know how great he is on the 1.5 mile tracks. He is an easy play, despite the fact he will likely be near 65% owned. Atlanta is generally a low incident race track – but it does eat tires and blowouts are not out of the question.
Kyle Busch – KB has great single lap speed, and is one of the, if not the fastest car on long runs. I think KB will lead a good chunk of this race before competing for a win. I think he will be around 40-50% owned.
Chase Elliott – Chase seemed to lack speed in practices, but I am not quite buying it. I think come race time they will have that machine tuned up and starting 27th, Chase would need his worst Atlanta performance ever to not end up in the optimal. I see him 33-40% owned – one of my favorite plays of the weekend.
Paul Menard – A top play and a value play all in one. The Woods Brothers car has always had speed at Atlanta, and Menard is a much better driver than people like to give him credit for. He starts 15th, but I think he has a top 6 car. At 6800 he offers a legitimate chance to get in the optimal, paired with a bit of salary relief. I think you’ll see him around 20% owned.
Fades
I am 100 percent ready to eat crow on this – because Ryan Newman has been fast all weekend – but I am not ready to buy into the hype. I am not convinced that RCR is in a place to back up a 2nd place starting spot, and I will be off Newman for the most part.
Values
It is so hard to mine for value at this early point in the season, but here are a few names I like
Ty Dillon – Ty is much better than a 28th starting spot, and has some chops at Atlanta. He will get some experience in today’s xFinity race, and should parlay that knowledge into a solid showing come Sunday.
David Ragan – Ragan starts 29th but showed top 25 speed in practice. He is a veteran driver that knows how to manage his gear and should be able to outlast some of the rookies in the field.
Austin Dillon – I am usually hesitant to play a driver coming off a big win – mostly because they usually go over exposed. However, AD is in a great spot this weekend to back up his Daytona win. His speed isn’t great, but there isn’t a lot of hope at this price range. I think AD is your best bet.
