First off, this is an ugly card. Draftkings didn’t do us any favors with horrible payouts either. I would definitely play this card light. Consider this like the Primetime slate in NFL. Most of these fights are up in the air just because many of the fighters just aren’t very good. Nonetheless, there is money to be won and we can get an appetizer for the better card the following night.
Before we get started, I want to congratulate DFS Army Member Kanger aka BigDaddyKang on this massive $50,000 cash with a 4th place finish in this past weeks NFL Milly Maker on DraftKings. Just another example of life-changing money won this season by a DFS Army VIP. Congratulations Kanger.

As always reach out to me in Slack with questions and be sure to check out the MMA Research Station and be sure to follow me on Twitter! The Research Station is up for this card and for UFC 218 the following night. Let’s break these down.

Whitmire (-205) 8.8k vs Robertson (+165) 7.4k
Whitmire has decent wrestling and ok takedowns. She does train with Misha Tate so she should be prepared for this fight. Robertson is really good anywhere. From what I can tell she is ok on the ground. I like the fact that Whitmire trains with Tate and trusting Vegas odds here. Both are playable in GPP’s. I will have more exposure to Whitmire. If you are playing cash games Whitmire is playable there as well.
Dobson (-260) 9.1k vs Beck (+200) 7.1k
This is a fight I might just fade altogether. Dobson has ok power and is a decent striker. Beck isn’t really good anywhere. Vegas doesn’t see this fight ending early which, makes me want to fade Dobson completely. She needs an early stoppage to reach value. Beck isn’t likely to win but, if forced to target this fight I would go with her just for the salary savings.
Ostovich (-400) 9.2k vs Gevorgyan (+310) 7k
Ostovich is an ok grappler. But she tends to get hit frequently. Gevorgyan is a decent striker that can be taken down. I don’t mind targeting this fight in tournaments. Either Ostovich is able to get her wrestling going and wins that way. Or Gevorgyan is able to avoid the TD and keep the fight standing where she has the advantage. I will have more lineups with Gevorgyan personally (just to avoid larger ownership).

Meerschaert (-190) 8.7k vs Spicely (+165) 7.5k
Meerschaert is a veteran fighter. He has solid stand-up and has faced the better competition. Spicely is a very low output striker (just over 1.2 SS’s). He has pulled off some decent upsets lately. For that reason alone he might be more popular then he should be. If he does win it will most likely be by submission. Meerschaert is a solid tournament play. Spicely is punt worthy but, I will be fading him for the most part.
Rosa (-365) 9.3k vs Marks (+275) 6.9k
Rosa is a decent striker and also looks to be decent on the ground as well. Marks is a solid striker. She has shown that she can be taken down. This fight I will have some exposure to in GPP’s. Just with her wrestling upside Rosa is the better play. Marks is playable also but, just as a punt.
O’Malley (-245) 9k vs Ware (+205) 7.2k
O’Malley is a solid striker with decent power. He does sometimes get a bit wild with his hands. He isn’t a very good wrestler. He also could be a popular fighter (8-0 professional record). Ware is a decent boxer with a solid stand-up game. He can also be taken down. He will also be the more experienced in this fight (17-5 pro record). Knowing that O’Malley could be popular makes me want to have lower ownership on him (1-2 lineups). Ware is a live dog and playable in all formats at his price.

Johns (-165) 8.4k vs Soto (+145) 7.8k
Johns fights at a very good pace. He is a decent striker with good wrestling and takedowns. He has yet to lose in the UFC. Soto is a decent striker. He does most of his damage on the mat. He has solid submissions. Both of these guys land at a pretty good rate (3.5 SS’s). Both are in play for tournaments.
Sanchez (-550) 9.6k vs Janes (+425) 6.6k
Sanchez is ok on the ground. He can get hurt if he gets tagged in the chin. He also doesn’t have the best cardio. Janes is a high volume striker that just keeps pressing forward. The only problem when he does this is he tends to leave himself exposed. I don’t see how this fight goes to dec. I will have exposure to both.
Bennett (-485) 9.4k vs Fabian (+350) 6.8k
Bennett isn’t really good anywhere. She has shown she is best when she gets the fight to the ground. Fabian isn’t good either. She is worse than Bennett on the ground. If we go by this alone Bennett will look to take this fight to the ground where she has an advantage and controls this fight. Bennett is playable in all formats. Fabian is more than likely a pass for me.

Honchak (-215) 8.9k vs Murphy (+170) 7.3k
Honchak is an aggressive fighter and a decent wrestler. Murphy is tough but not very good anywhere. This fight is fairly simple Honchak is in play. I won’t be very heavy on her at all. Murphy is a complete fade for me.
Montano (-215) 8.5k vs Modafferi (+170) 7.7k
This is probably a fight you want exposure to. Its the only 1 scheduled to go 5 rounds. Montano has solid TD’s and defends them well also. She doesn’t really do too much on the feet. She basically just keeps going for TD’s. Modafferi is by far the more experienced fighter here. She isn’t very athletic but, she does throw at a decent volume. Montano will be the more popular play for sure. That’s why I don’t mind taking some chances with Modafferi at lower ownership.

That’s it. You may have noticed I didn’t mention many cash plays. This is a card more geared for GPP’s. Have fun with this card (just don’t go crazy with the bankroll). Good luck everyone, don’t forget to check out the MMA Research Station to help you build your lineups, and follow me on Twitter!
