Forslund's Full Mount - UFC Fight Night 123 - DFS MMA Breakdown

Welcome, DFS Army to another Saturday night card.  We have a good card top to bottom here.  I also like the fact we have 13 fights on this card.  This should spread ownership out more than usual since most cards have 10-12 fights.

Before we get started, I want to congratulate DFS Army VIP Member dbarlow87 on this 4th place win for $10,000 and also winning a seat at the WFBBC Live FanDuel NBA Final this past week! The DFS Army continues its domination in all DFS Sports.

Giles (-270) 9.1k vs Neto (+230) 7.1k

Giles comes into this fight with a 10-0 record.  He is athletic and likes to brawl in his fights.  He also has solid ground and pound.  He does sometimes put himself in bad situations though.  That hasn’t hurt him yet but, it’s something to take note of.  Neto hasn’t been in the octagon in 3 years.  He has solid jiu jitsu and good submissions as well.  This is a good fight to target in tournaments.  Giles should win this fight I just don’t love his salary.  Neto is 1 of the cheapest fighters on the card so I don’t mind taking some shots on him in larger entry GPP’s.  Overall I will have exposure to this fight on both ends.

Ramos (-430) 8.7k vs Gruetzemacher (+345) 7.5k

Ramos is a lock in cash games.  He has the best odds to win and is the 7th most expensive fighter.  Everyone should have him so, just lock him in.

Ramos has good power and is a solid puncher.  He fights at a good pace and is difficult to take down.  He also has solid submissions and good cardio.  Gruetzemacher is coming into this the smaller fighter.  He isn’t a good grappler and is very hittable.  I love Ramos in all formats and will have plenty of exposure to him in general.

Alcantara (-210) 8.8k vs Alejandro Perez (+175) 7.4k

Alcantara is solid all-around.  He is a good striker with solid submissions.  He can sometimes be very Jeckal and Hyde.  Meaning he will look great 1 fight and just look like crap in another.  Perez has shown in the past he can be submitted.  One good thing about him is many of his fights end up going to decision.  I think it’s a good idea to have some exposure to both here.  I think if you are building more then 16 lineups it’s a good idea to have a bit of exposure to a couple of the dogs on this card.  Perez in this spot is 1 of them.  Alcantara should win here I just don’t want to limit him some a bit.  He has a higher price tag and this fight could easily go to decision.

Dvalishvili (-160) 8.5k vs Saenz (+140) 7.7k

Dvalishvili is a good striker with good power.  He has solid takedowns and a very good sambo background.  Saenz is coming into this fight having lost his last 3 in a row.  He also has a pretty poor chin.  This fight is pretty straightforward.  Its Dvalishvili or pass for me here.  He is playable in all formats (I personally prefer him more in GPP’s).

Alex Perez (-370) 8.9k vs Tomas (+310) 7.3k

Perez is a solid all-around fighter with good submissions.  Tomas just isn’t very good anywhere.  His best attribute is his grappling.  Perez has the advantage everywhere in this fight.  I like Perez in all formats.  I will most likely have zero shares of Tomas (unless it’s a hedge lineup).

Sanders (-255) 9k vs Soukhamthath (+215) 7.2k

Sanders is a solid striker with decent power.  He has good takedowns and is a good grappler once he does.  Soukhamthath is a decent striker.  He has good hands and good combos.  He fights at a fairly decent pace.  I really like targeting this fight in tournaments.  I think it’s a good idea to target both fighters.

Carmouche (-170) 8.4k vs Davis (+150) 7.8k

These 2 women have faced each other in the past (Davis won).  Carmouche is a decent striker who throws solid combos together.  She also has good takedowns.  Davis is an ok striker but, overall she isn’t really good anywhere.  This is a fadeable fight for the most part.  If you are doing more then 12 lineups I don’t mind the idea of getting some small exposure to Carmouche.

Lopez (-110) 8.2k vs Morales (-110) 8k

Lopez is an aggressive fighter.  He is a good striker with good knees as well.  He has decent submissions.  Morales is a tough fighter.  He is a decent striker with good power.  This is another good fight to target in tournaments.  I will have both in some lineups.  My preferred play is Morales mainly because he is cheaper.  But another big factor I like is this will be his 1st UFC fight where he has had a full camp to prepare for his opponent.

Anders (-310) 9.2k vs Markus Perez (+255) 7k

Anders is very athletic (former D1 football player at Alabama).  He will have a size advantage in this fight.  He has big-time power and good hands.  He is also a solid grappler.  Perez isn’t really good anywhere.  I really like Anders in tournaments.  My only concern is he could be fairly high owned.  I still think it’s a good idea to use him in some.  Perez, I don’t have much interest in.

Holtzman (-125) 8.3k vs Horcher (+105) 7.9k

Holtzman is a tough fighter.  He sometimes ends up eating punches because he leaves his chin open so much.  Horcher is a decent striker with good combos.  Overall this is a fight you can fade.  I see this being a fairly low scoring fight that goes to decision.  If forced to play 1 I would prefer Horcher for the savings.

Moraes (-135) 8.6k vs Sterling (+115) 7.6k

Moraes is taking this fight on short notice.  He is a good striker with solid leg kicks.  Sterling will have the reach advantage.  He is a decent striker and a solid grappler.  I prefer Moraes here.  I am just not in love with his salary.  Sterling interests me some,  just because he is 1 of the few dogs I think has a chance to win.  I think you can have exposure to both.  Another strategy idea I like is fading this fight completely.  I like that idea because you can really narrow down a core to build your tournament lineups around.

Knight (-335) 9.3k vs Benitez (+275) 6.9k

Knight is very aggressive.  He has good takedowns and solid submissions.  He does have a suspect chin.  Benitez has decent stand-up.  He has good power with solid leg kicks.  He has been able to be taken down.  I think Knight is playable in all formats.  I like him a bit more in cash.  I think he has a safer floor than ceiling.  I also don’t mind Benitez either.  He should be able to reach value if this fight gets out of the 1st round.  I think he is playable in both formats also has a punt.

Ortega (-115) 8.1k vs Swanson (-105) 8.1k

This is the main event.  So like most weeks, I think it’s a good strategy to stack this fight in cash.

Ortega is a decent striker.  He has very dangerous submissions.  Swanson is a good striker who lands at a good pace.  Interesting note about Swanson all of his losses in UFC have come via submission.  I think this is a must target fight in tournaments.  With both fighters priced evenly, the winning fighter should score very well.  I am leaning towards having more exposure to Swanson.  But will have lineups with Ortega as well.
