NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 10/29/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Big slate here with some high priced options, some backup goalies, and some unexpected high ceiling stacks. Like always I am obligated to say that the Leafs will always have a high ceiling, and the Kings don’t currently have the greatest defense and goaltending situation. Matthews and Marner both scored in their last game, so they are trending in the right direction. We also have the battle of Alberta on display tonight with McDavid and Draisaitl going against the Flames; and even though they crushed them in the playoffs, it feels a bit like point chasing to me on such a big slate. The Blues are also in a nice spot at home against the Canadiens, and the Sabres are in a nice spot at home against the Blackhawks.

Correlated Snipe #1

Ryan Johansen – Matt Duchene – Filip Forberg

We can certainly go all in and take Roman Josi in this game as well and completely stack the Predators at home against Darcy Kuemper and the Capitals. Everyone knows I love the Predators this year, because they are my pick to represent the western conference in the cup finals; but, they are also driven offensively by their top line and quarterback defenseman. Which is exactly what we want for fantasy reasons. The Capitals defense is average at best, and Darcy Kuemper is a very streaky goalie. What this means for me is that the Predators are in a very volatile spot that has a decent chance to pop. The Predators’ big boys each had 3 points last game (when Johansen moved to the top center), and they also correlate on the powerplay.

Correlated Snipe #2

Max Domi – Patrick Kane – Seth Jones

Adding Seth Jones to this stack is a personal choice. Patrick Kane and Max Domi have disrespectful salaries across the DFS industry, and the Sabres do not really scare me. Craig Anderson is the oldest player in the NHL and takes the crease for the Sabres, which does not scare me. Domi is a point per game player this year that no doubt Chicago will try to get a first round pick for at the deadline; so they will want to continue to give him top line minutes with Kane. Kane is also most likely going to get traded for a bunch of stuff at the deadline. and Buffalo in the offseason was one of the contenders to get him. I have nothing more to say other than their prices are disrespectful.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

Jared McCann – Loves to shoot that puck. He has goals in his last 4 games.

Grinder #2

Max Domi – Even if not stacking Chicago, he has 6 points in his last for games and is dirt cheap on DraftKings.

Grinder #3

Frederick Gaudreau – Crushed his last game, and is still the top line center for Kirill Kaprizov.
