The focus of this article is to sort through the myriad of options on larger slates and find not only some solid foundational plays but also some spots that could go overlooked. We focus on stacks that are solid for small-field and SE as well as overlooked spots for large-field GPPs, and we discuss players that have good past history vs. the pitchers they’re facing. FIVE DFS MLB Stacks
Milwaukee Brewers
This is one of the first spots that jumped out to me. Nick Lodolo has talent, but he’s also been vulnerable this season, and now he gets the added challenge of pitching in Great American Ball Park, where mistakes tend to get punished in a hurry. Milwaukee has been one of the better offenses in baseball all year, and they have enough power throughout the lineup to take advantage of the park boost. The matchup isn’t perfect, but the combination of the ballpark and the Brewers’ upside puts them firmly on my radar.

Atlanta Braves
I’ll keep taking shots on Atlanta in spots like this. German Marquez (and his 5.76 ERA) is the likely starter tonight as he’s coming back from the IL; as we know, he has been one of the more volatile pitchers in baseball, and when things go south for him, they tend to unravel quickly. The Braves haven’t consistently played to their ceiling this year as consistently as they’d like, but we know the upside is there, and this feels like a matchup where they can put together a few big innings if his command isn’t sharp regardless of how long they leave him in for. Ceiling remains among the best on the slate, and as such I’d feel comfortable going over the field here.
Athletics
The A’s are always one of my favorite tournament offenses because of the ceiling they bring, and I don’t think this spot will attract much attention. Robbie Ray has pitched well this season and pitching in San Francisco isn’t exactly ideal for hitters, so I expect most people to look elsewhere. That’s exactly what makes them interesting. The Athletics have shown all season that they can leave the yard in bunches, and they don’t need a perfect matchup to put up a crooked number. I’ll gladly take some shots here in GPPs, especially if the ownership comes in lower than it should.

Chicago Cubs
Kodai Senga does have some talent, but he’s been horrid this season (a 9.00 ERA says it all). The thing is, we’ve seen this offense explode for big run totals plenty of times this season, and they’re capable of doing damage against good pitching when everything clicks, but that’s not this tonight. If Senga has an off night (which, let’s be honest, has been pretty much every night this season), the Cubs have tournament-winning upside. One of my favorite spots overall even if Chicago’s offense is up and down.
New York Mets
The Mets’ offense hasn’t exactly inspired a ton of confidence this season, but this is the kind of matchup that can change things for a night. Edward Cabrera has had a miserable year, struggling with both command and traffic issues while allowing hitters plenty of opportunities to do damage. New York isn’t an offense I’m usually looking to build around, but if Cabrera’s control problems show up again, the Mets could end up being one of the better leverage spots on the slate. Tournament-only for me (and deep), but definitely worth some consideration.
