The 5-4-3 Double Play | Stacks, Matchups, and Value Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings | June 20

The focus of this article is to sort through the myriad of options on larger slates and find not only some solid foundational plays but also some spots that could go overlooked.  We focus on stacks that are solid for small-field and SE as well as overlooked spots for large-field GPPs, and we discuss players that have good past history vs. the pitchers they’re facing.  Our Discord strategy rooms are incredibly active. FIVE DFS MLB Stacks
Los Angeles Dodgers
It’s tough not to like the Dodgers here. Trevor Rogers has had his share of struggles over the past couple of seasons, and even when he’s pitching reasonably well, this is still one of the deepest lineups in baseball. Los Angeles has been a little inconsistent offensively at times over the last few weeks, which could keep ownership somewhat reasonable, but the ceiling is obvious. They don’t need many opportunities to put together a crooked number, and this feels like one of the stronger stacks on the slate.

Philadelphia Phillies
This is one of those spots where the matchup looks tougher than the upside might suggest. Freddy Peralta is a very good pitcher and can absolutely rack up strikeouts, but the Phillies are one of the few offenses capable of hanging a big number on any arm in baseball. They’re deep, patient, and have power throughout the lineup. I don’t expect them to be a popular stack given who’s on the mound, which makes them pretty interesting from a tournament perspective.

Athletics
The A’s are probably my favorite tournament offense on this slate. Walbert Urena is still trying to establish himself at the major league level, and young pitchers facing an offense with this much power is usually a situation I want exposure to. Oakland has shown all season that they can put up runs in bunches when things get rolling, and their home park has played much friendlier to hitters than most people expected. If Urena gets behind in counts early, this could turn into one of the better offensive spots of the night.

Minnesota Twins
The Twins feel like a sneaky tournament play. Zac Gallen has had an up-and-down season and hasn’t looked like the dominant version we’ve seen in years past. Minnesota’s offense can be frustrating at times, but they still have plenty of power and have shown they can put together big innings when things click. On a smaller slate, I don’t mind taking some shots here if people gravitate toward the more obvious offenses. The upside is definitely there if Gallen’s inconsistency shows up again.

Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates in Colorado are going to get my attention every time. Tomoyuki Sugano has generally pitched well this season, but Coors Field changes the equation for everybody. The altitude creates extra upside for opposing offenses, and Pittsburgh has enough power throughout the lineup to take advantage if they can get traffic on the bases. On a seven-game slate, I think they’ll be one of the more popular offenses, and it’s hard to argue with the environment.
