The focus of this article is to sort through the myriad of options on larger slates and find not only some solid foundational plays but also some spots that could go overlooked. We focus on stacks that are solid for small-field and SE as well as overlooked spots for large-field GPPs, and we discuss players that have good past history vs. the pitchers they’re facing. FIVE DFS MLB Stacks
Los Ángeles Dodgers
It’s hard not to have interest in the Dodgers whenever they’re facing a pitcher with traffic issues, and Erick Fedde fits that description. Fedde enters with a 4.69 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, and while he’s had some solid outings this year, he’s also shown a tendency to let innings snowball once runners start reaching base. Los Angeles doesn’t need many opportunities to put up a crooked number, and this feels like another spot where the offense can do some damage. One of the stronger stacks on the slate.

Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona is one of the first offenses that jumps out to me on this slate. Andrew Abbott has pitched better lately, but he’s still carrying a 4.10 ERA and 1.41 WHIP on the season, and this Diamondbacks lineup has been one of the hottest offenses in baseball for weeks. They’ve averaged nearly six runs per game over the past couple of weeks and continue to put pressure on opposing pitchers from top to bottom. I like the upside quite a bit here, especially if ownership comes in behind some of the bigger-name offenses.
New York Yankees
The old “play bats against Patrick Corbin” philosophy is still tough for me to completely ignore. To Corbin’s credit, he’s been somewhat (?) better this season, pitching to a 4.45 ERA and 1.45 WHIP, but the Yankees are one of the few offenses capable of making even quality pitchers look bad in a hurry. The power throughout this lineup gives them a ceiling that’s hard to match, and I don’t mind taking shots here at all.

Seattle Mariners
This is one of my favorite tournament spots of the day. Miles Mikolas has a 5.90 ERA and 1.34 WHIP this season, and that’s generally a profile I’m willing to attack. Seattle’s offense can be frustrating at times, but the power upside remains, and Mikolas isn’t the type of pitcher who consistently misses enough bats to completely neutralize dangerous lineups. I like the upside here quite a bit and could maybe see them coming in a little lower-owned than they should.
Baltimore Orioles
I don’t think this spot will get a ton of attention, which makes it pretty interesting for tournaments. Walker Buehler has shown flashes this season, but he’s also had trouble putting together consistent outings and enters with a 4.33 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. Baltimore has enough talent and power throughout the lineup to capitalize if Buehler is off his game, and they’re the type of offense that can string together big innings once traffic starts building. Solid GPP option with some sneaky upside.
