The 5-4-3 Double Play | Stacks, Matchups, and Value Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings | May 8

The focus of this article is to sort through the myriad of options on larger slates and find not only some solid foundational plays but also some spots that could go overlooked.  We focus on stacks that are solid for small-field and SE as well as overlooked spots for large-field GPPs, and we discuss players that have good past history vs. the pitchers they’re facing.  Our Discord strategy rooms are incredibly active. FIVE DFS MLB Stacks
Chicago Cubs
You’ve got to keep rolling with this offense…they’re coming off of three straight walk-off wins earlier this week and have reeled off nine straight wins. Kumar Rocker has been rocked (sorry/not sorry for the pun) to the tune of a 4.71 ERA while coming off a start of just two innings of five-run ball. Prime spot for this streaking, high-upside offense to take advantage, and I’m starting with Ian Happ, Michael Busch, PCA, and Moises Ballesteros.

Atlanta Braves
I like the spot for the Braves here in this one as they’re getting a good matchup in at least a great viewing environment facing the Dodgers (who are facing Chris Sale). Emmet Sheehan has not been ace-like (a 5.23 ERA on the season) and the Braves’ offense has been one of the best in the league for most of the season; additionally, if Sale were to implode, we could have an offensive explosion, which would be great for DFS purposes on both sides (see below). Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, and Drake Baldwin are where your Braves stacks should start.

New York Mets
More of a tournament spot here as a lot of the team hasn’t been performing the way they’d hope, but the Mets are in play purely due to the matchup against Ryne Nelson (he of the 6.61 ERA). I also like the spot due to the bottom-10 performance of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen (their group ERA is 4.63 on the season). Juan Soto hits Nelson quite well and Mark Vientos is playing some strong baseball, so start with them (and I could see this duo as a solid mini-stack as well).

Athletics
The Athletics’ offense always has that attractive upside (we saw them blow up last night), and that could be in play tonight again facing Kyle Bradish. He hasn’t been that effective this season even though he’s only given up five long balls in seven starts; he does have a 5.06 ERA, however, and if the A’s get a couple on base, things could go south quickly. Shea Langeliers has been hot and Jeff McNeil has been sneakily playing well (and is usually cheap) with six RBI in his last seven, so I’d start with those two and mix in Nick Kurtz and Tyler Soderstrom for that power upside.

Los Angeles Dodgers
This would be a great leverage play for tournaments: the best (?) offense in the league facing one of the best pitchers in the league. This is a spot the field won’t be on just because Chris Sale has been so good this season, but that’s a spot to pick on in your large-field. He could shut them down, but what if they go off (like they can) at super-low ownership? Something to consider. Andy Pages is starting to heat back up and the usual suspects (though a bit cold) are always viable.
