The 5-4-3 Double Play | Stacks, Matchups, and Value Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings | April 14

The focus of this article is to sort through the myriad of options on larger slates and find not only some solid foundational plays but also some spots that could go overlooked.  We focus on stacks that are solid for small-field and SE as well as overlooked spots for large-field GPPs, and we discuss players that have good past history vs. the pitchers they’re facing.  Our Discord strategy rooms are incredibly active. FIVE DFS MLB Stacks
Houston Astros
We know the Astros’ offense has been cold lately (they’ve lost eight straight), but I’m starting my stacks there tonight not just because of their upside but also because Michael Lorenzen hasn’t shown me anything to make me fear stacking against him. Through four starts (one of them he only went an inning) he’s pitched to a 8.36 ERA and 2.14 WHIP. Yordan Alvarez is always where I’m beginning, especially when he’s as hot as he is, and Carlos Correa, Christian Walker, and Cam Smith all have the pop as well.

Boston Red Sox
Good tournament spot for the Red Sox tonight: the Twins are trotting out Mick Abel, he of the 6.08 ERA and 2.10 WHIP through three outings (though to be fair he did shut out the Tigers through six innings in his last start, which I think is more the outlier than the norm from him). Happy to take some shots on Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu to start.

Colorado Rockies
The Rockies’ bats are fairly volatile, but in a matchup against an untested Colton Gordon, I don’t mind having some shares in my tournament mix. Troy Johnston and Mickey Moniak are hot and are always good starting spots with them, and Ezequiel Tovar and TJ Rumfeld are good pieces to mix in. You don’t need to have a ton to likely go over the field, either.

Los Angeles Dodgers
Another spot that you can get some good leverage on the field by playing some Dodger stacks (and even a couple of mini-stacks makes some sense) as the pitching matchup is a good one. Nolan McLean has been good to start the season, so attacking him gets you a little bit different. Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages are where I want to start; Hyeseong Kim as a cheap wraparound piece is lovely as well, and don’t forget Freddie Freeman.

Texas Rangers
Deeper tournament play, but one backed up by a decent matchup in a good environment. The A’s’ home park is very conducive for offense and Jeffrey Springs is someone that doesn’t intimidate a ton even though he’s off to a good start this season and the Rangers’ bats are relatively cold overall. Take some shots here. Corey Seager and Brandon Nimmo make for a nice mini-stack in your MME mix.
