Part the Cloud: A Deep Dive into Wide Receivers and Defensive Schemes for 2025 Week 12

We’re back with the Week 12 edition of Part the Cloud, where we continue the quest for overlooked, low-owned wide receivers. There’s always value if we know where to look — and this week is no different.

The Film Room: Last Week’s Recap

Before diving into this week’s targets, let’s revisit last week’s picks.
Spoiler: It wasn’t pretty.

Ricky Pearsall

DK: 0.2x | FD: 0.1x
I hoped we were buying early at a discount, but it turns out we were too early. Pearsall managed only 1 catch on 3 targets for zero yards. Still shaking off the rust, it seems.

Cooper Kupp

DK: 1.4x | FD: 0.8x
Kupp drew 7 targets but hauled in just 3 for 27 yards. Not the bounce-back spot we were hoping for.

Hollywood Brown

DK: 1.9x | FD: 1.1x
Brown posted 4 catches for 40 yards — a forgettable outing, but at least he showed signs of life.

Let’s turn the page.

11 Personnel

Three-WR sets dominate today’s NFL, so we’ll match the formation with three low-owned plays of our own.

Luther Burden

DK: $3600 (Proj. Own: 4.03%) | FD: $4700 (Proj. Own: 5.21%)

Burden has officially overtaken Zaccheus as the starting slot receiver, posting season-high marks in snap share and target share last week. Now he draws the best possible matchup — Pittsburgh, the league’s worst defense by fantasy points allowed to WRs.

Even better, he projects to face the most favorable individual CB matchup on a route-by-route basis. The Steelers rely heavily on single-high looks and struggle most in Man and Cover 2. Burden excels against Man and is borderline lethal downfield, making him an ideal fit to attack Pittsburgh’s vulnerabilities.

Verdict: A complete receiver in an elite matchup. One of the best low-owned plays of the week.

Roman Wilson

DK: $3800 (Proj. Own: 1.08%) | FD: $5300 (Proj. Own: 0.79%)

Pittsburgh has thrown more than expected lately, and Wilson has quietly become a major beneficiary. Opening the season as WR3 (and arguably fifth in the target hierarchy), he’s now operating as WR2.

He thrives against Man and Cover 2 — conveniently the Bears’ two most frequently used coverages overall, and especially in the red zone.

Verdict: A cheap WR2 in a coverage matchup tailor-made for his strengths.

Christian Watson

DK: $4600 (Proj. Own: 6.35%) | FD: $6100 (Proj. Own: 5.39%)

Watson is a sneaky play because the edge isn’t obvious at first glance. Minnesota funnels passes to the perimeter and is most vulnerable in Man and two-high shells.

Watson is only average versus two-high, but he is the team’s best and most consistent option against Man — and with one of Minnesota’s two-high specialists operating from the slot, Watson gets a slight additional bump.

With Kraft sidelined, Reed still not back, and Musgrave unlikely to exploit these coverages, Watson becomes the natural pressure-release valve for an offense with a hobbled run game.

Verdict: A high-upside outside WR in the exact matchup that fits his strengths.

Summary

These are my three favorite low-owned WR plays for Week 12:

  • Luther Burden

  • Roman Wilson

  • Christian Watson
