Part the Cloud: A Deep Dive into Wide Receivers and Defensive Schemes for 2025 Week 5

Welcome back to Week 5 of Part the Cloud! I’ve been deep in the film room, diving into defensive coverage schemes in search of wide receiver value—those sneaky plays that most are missing. Let’s break down last week, evaluate what we saw, and then uncover a few intriguing names heading into this weekend.

🎥 The Film Room: Week 4 Recap

Before we move forward, let’s take a quick look back to see how our process held up. We’ll always have variance, but the goal is to keep the vision clear and the decisions sharp.

🔹 Keenan Allen

  • DK: 1.6x | FD: 1x
He was the second-leading receiver for the Chargers, but the offense as a whole stumbled in a slow, out-of-conference game. When ranking game importance—divisional > in-conference > out-of-conference—this one meant the least. In hindsight, it wasn’t the ideal spot, but more on the Chargers shortly.

🔹 Dyami Brown

  • Status: Inactive
Unfortunately ruled out on Sunday morning. Nothing you can do there.

🔹 Adonai Mitchell

  • DK: 3.7x | FD: 2.3x
Caught 3 of 4 targets for 96 yards. He was inches away from a smash day, but a fumble through the end zone turned a touchdown into a touchback. A 7.1-point swing against us—painful, but the process was right.

🧾 11 Personnel: This Week’s WR Value Watch

Three-WR sets dominate today’s NFL, and while this week offers strong RB and even TE value, there are still WRs worth targeting.

🔥 Tre Tucker

  • DK: $4700 | FD: $5700

  • Projected Ownership: DK – 2.03% | FD – 2.34%

Tucker is my favorite value WR this week. While Jakobi Meyers garners more ownership, Tucker is the sneakier, potentially more effective play.

Why I like him:

  • The Colts’ defense leans heavily on Cover 3, Cover 4, Cover 2, and Man.

  • With Brock Bowers likely out, Tucker becomes their top-performing receiver vs. Cover 3/4.

  • He’s also shown nearly identical success against Man Coverage as Meyers but is flying under the radar in ownership.

🔁 Keenan Allen

  • DK: $5600 | FD: $6500

  • Projected Ownership: DK – 10.5% | FD – 9.81%

I’m going back to Allen. There’s a lot of chatter around Ladd, and while the hype is understandable (everyone loves a breakout), Allen simply continues to be better—on tape and in production.

What stands out:

  • This week’s opponent (Commanders) is similar in coverage style to last week’s (Giants).

  • Key difference: The Giants ran Cover 1 (Man) 15 percentage points more than the Commanders do (Thank you Fantasy Points Data).

  • Quentin Johnston thrives vs. Cover 1, but Allen dominates against Zone concepts, which should be more present this week compared to last.

⚡ Rasheed Shaheed

  • DK: $4500 | FD: $5300

  • Projected Ownership: DK – 1.86% | FD – 2.21%

A sneaky name in a great price range. While Chris Olave grabs headlines (and rightly so), Shaheed quietly continues to earn steady targets.

Why consider him:

  • Giants play Man Coverage nearly 50% of the time—coverage Shaheed has very good success against.

  • In the same salary range as Tucker, I prefer Tucker, but Shaheed offers upside in a potentially lower-owned game if you need to pivot.

🧩 In Summary

This week, the real value lies in RBs and TEs, but if roster construction pulls you toward cheaper WRs, there are still viable paths to upside. Tucker stands out the most to me, but Allen and Shaheed each make sense in specific builds.
