DFS NHL Snipes and Grinders for DraftKings and FanDuel – 10/19/24

Big ole slate this fine Saturday evening in the NHL. We always attack these with our stacking and leverage strategies that we talk about in our Discord server. Player salaries in DFS are sharpening across the industry which makes lineup constructions tighter, and builds tougher to make with the upside that we want. As always, we will figure it out. There still are some flawed prices on specific players, and this is where we need to pounce and be overweight of the field.

Correlated Snipe #1 – Elias Pettersson – Quinn Hughes

These guys are both a touch over $6k on Draftkings. These salaries are laughable for the talent that these players possess. Pettersson has been oddly underwhelming ever since he signed his massive contract extension, but we know how great of a player he really is. Quinn Hughes is the reigning Norris Trophy winner and he is mainly known for his offensive upside as a defenseman, which is 100% what we are looking for in DFS. These guys mainly correlate on the powerplay, which is why I like them stacked. Pettersson’s wingers are both underpriced as well, but they aren’t on the PP1. One of them will pop up as one of my grinders. Philly hasn’t had many saves from their 2 subpar goalies, which makes me excited to jam in 2 underpriced all-stars in Hughes and Pettersson.

Correlated Snipe #2 – Kirill Kaprizov – Mats Zuccarello

You can pair these 2 with either their center Marco Rossi, who is a young high flyer, or Brock Faber who is a young defenseman that plays a ton (including the powerplay). Kaprizov is uber expensive, so this stack needs to really connect, or we lose. I will warn you that this stack is risky, because they will either break the slate entirely or you will just be in last. I say this because these studs don’t have high floors, but they could both get the 3 point bonuses. Columbus’ goaltending has been subpar this year, and the Wild already beat them once. Kaprizov played 27 minutes last game, which didn’t go to overtime, and that is an absurd amount of ice time for a forward. The Wild are letting Kaprizov cook, and Columbus has young defensemen that could be exploited here.

Grinders:

Nils Hoglander – a former 20 goal scorer known by few. He is a powerful skater, and is on Elias Pettersson’s left wing.

Stephen Noesen – A bottom 6 forward, but is on the NJ Devils first powerplay unit. A cheap dart that could score.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson – Cheap, on Toronto’s top powerplay unit, and is logging solid minutes.

Damon Severson – You need a cheap D punt, you need Damon Severson. This may be the ony time I will write him up all year, but he is basically min-priced on Draftkings. 20 minutes a game, has a point per game, and is a +4 on the year. He has looked solid.
