NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 1/10/23

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Big boy slate here everybody, and with no Matthews or McDavid, this slate becomes interesting. Like always I will be going over my 2 favorite stacks of the day, but there are several interesting options to choose from. My favorite secondary stacks include Pittsburgh who gets to play at home against a Vancouver team that is simply inferior to them; followed by the Lightning who are just way better than Columbus, and then ofcourse the Sharks getting to play in Arizona. the chalkiest goalie on the slate is probably going to be Vasilevskiy followed by Jarry, with me also enjoying some Kochetkov in tournaments. The Kraken vs Sabres game will also be a popular one, but with both teams playing the night before, it seems iffy. Tage Thompson can never ever truly be a stone fade though.

Correlated Snipe #1

Pierre-Luc Dubois – Kyle Connor – Nikolaj Ehlers

The Red Wings are a decent team and can play fast, but the Jets are simply true contenders this year. Dubois and Connor have grown as teammates all season, and they are on true heaters as of late. They have piled I believe double digit points each in their last 6 games, and Ehlers in his second game back registered 3 points. These guys also correlate on the poweplay, and I don’t hate the over-stack with Josh Morrisey if you-re really going for it. Ville Husso for Detroit is a good goalie, but has has some hiccups as of late, and Nedeljkovic has not impressed me this season; so either way, I am not scared of Detroit. Give me the 3 best players that correlate together on this slate, and let’s figure the rest out.

Correlated Snipe #2

Nathan Mackinnon – Artturi Lekhonen

These 2 have correlated for a while, but with Nichushkin out, and Rodriguez likely slotting in (but not on the powerplay), I see these 2 as a great mini-stack in all formats. If saving some salary I don’t mind Rantanen and Compher, but Mackinnon is the best player and DFS play of the slate. Cale Makar is stackable in any Avalanche build. Colorado is at home against the Panthers who are out west, and this is a great matchup for our boys. The Panthers have had subpar goaltending, and their defense simply is not good at all. I expect the Avalanche to get behind the Panthers, draw some penalties, and for the Avs to get at least a 5 burger in this spot.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

Tyler Bertuzzi – I am not sue where he will slot into the lineup, check your sources later in the day; but he will most likely be way too cheap for his upside.

Grinder #2

Kirill Marchenko – Probably the Blue Jackets 3rd or 4th best offensive player right now. Nobody ever knows what the Blue Jackets will do with their lines, but we have seen hat trick upside form this young, tall, goofy Russian.

Grinder #3

Kevin Labanc – His salary never goes up and all he does is shoot pucks, and occasionally they go in. For his price, matchup, and role, he still makes the cut.
