Defenses to Stream – Week 14 NFL Fantasy Football

DFS Army’s Gthom goes over the defenses to stream this week. The defenses to stream listed below are normally found in at least 40-percent of leagues (prior to waivers).

Another HUGE turnout for our article last week! We nailed down THE play-of -the-week, the Cleveland Browns who scored 27 fantasy points. The article finished with a D/ST scoring average of 12.66 fantasy points, along with two top-10 finishes last week.

Buccaneers D/ST @ San Francisco 49ers

Available in 35% of Sleeper Leagues

While this is not the match-up you would want to attack at face-value, the 49ers offense drastically changed once Jimmy Garappollo went down for the season. The X-factor for the Bucs D/ST will be San Francisco’s new starter, Brock Purdy.

Purdy is a seventh-round rookie quarterback who is not good at NFL football (yet?), and that’s a harsh truth. Nonetheless, rookie quarterbacks struggle in this league and that makes Purdy an easy target for D/ST streaming managers in Week 14.

Tampa Bay is a great streaming D/ST that has upside. I would caution calling it a slam-dunk play, though. 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan is a smart and creative play-caller. The “Shany” system thrives when his run game is working and the defense flies around; if the 49ers win those two parts of the game it will take immense pressure off Purdy.

Even with a great offensive system in San Francisco, the Bucs D/ST is the top priority on this list.

Chiefs D/ST @ Denver Broncos

Available in 56% of Sleeper Leagues

At this point we know Denver is one of the worst offenses in this league. This narrative sets the table for the Chiefs’ defense to be great in Week 14. KC will expect to get back on track after a tough loss in Cincy too.

Over the last five weeks Denver has allowed opposing D/ST’s to score 2.1 fantasy points above expectation (28th). On a per-game basis they are allowing 8.8 fantasy points during the same time (28th). From a fantasy points perspective, the Kansas City defense has played well through their last three games. Despite a rough Cincy game, Chiefs D/ST is averaging 7.7-FPPG as a defense.

The reason you NEED to pick up the Chiefs is actually next week, Week 15, when the Chiefs play Houston. The Texans have allowed 47 total fantasy points to opposing defenses in their last three games. That is 22.3-FPPG allowed, easily the worst in the NFL.

Seahawks D/ST vs Carolina Panthers

Available in 45% of Sleeper Leagues

The draw towards Seattle is actually Carolina’s quarterback, Sam Darnold. Last season Darnold was arguably the most turnover-prone quarterback until he went down with a season-ending injury. In his first game of 2022, Darnold played a clean and decent game against a bad Broncos team. Darnold fumbled once, but it was recovered by Carolina. Fantasy managers are hoping for vintage Darnold when they pick-up and stream Seattle’s defense.

This Seattle unit has been solid for fantasy this season and has average 7.4-FPPG. They played well last week against the Rams when Seattle forced two turnovers and sacked the quarterback four times. Since Week 6, the Seahawks have finished as a top-12 fantasy defense on five occasions, or 71-percent of the time.
