The Simple Six- Week 4 NFL DFS Plays

Welcome to the week 4 NFL main slate.  Play Jamaal Williams and Khalil Herbert with a Bills/Ravens game stack and print money.  End of article.  Easy game, right?  If it was that easy we’d all be quitting our day jobs and be shopping for beach houses.  I am certainly playing those guys in cash and using them strategically in tournaments.

On a week with such heavy chalk, I’m going to use my column to identify six common sense plays to help you get different.

1- Rachaad Penny, $4,900 on DraftKings

It seems like we’ve been picking on Detroit’s run defense since Wayne Fontes was on the sidelines.  Few have picked on them better than Rachaad Penny in week 17 of last season.  He rushed for 170 and 2 TDs, scoring over 40 DK points while deciding countless fantasy championships and best ball tournaments. Penny is seeing more snaps with passing down back Travis Homer out.  His 69% of snaps played and 14 carries last week were season highs.

His numbers to start the season certainly don’t blow you away, but Penny passes the eye test.  He is healthy and running the ball well.  We currently project Jamaal Williams to carry 6 to 7 times the ownership of Penny in the same game.  Is Williams a better play? Sure, but in large field GPPs, I’ll take the massive discount in ownership that comes with a $1,200 savings in price.

2- Daniel Bellinger, $2,800 on DraftKings

Unless you are a Giants fan or play in a deep, TE premium dynasty league, you may be asking who is Daniel Bellinger?  The rookie tight end is coming off a game against Dallas where he caught 4 balls for 40 yards.  His 5 targets were tied for second on the team.  The Giants will be without Sterling Shepard who lead the team with 10 targets last week.  Kadarius Toney and Wan’Dale Robinson are still out with injury.

Bellinger seems to have earned Daniel Jones’ trust and is leverage off Richie James who we have at over 15% ownership.  You just have to cross you fingers that a chalk Mark Andrews doesn’t put up a score that breaks the slate.  I think a 1-2% owned Bellinger probably gets you 10 DK points in this spot and at only $2,800 opens up a ton of salary.

3- Gabe Davis, $6,600 on DraftKings

The Baltimore secondary is in shambles.  Two weeks ago Tua carved them up for 6 touchdowns.  Last week the gave up 156 yards to the resurrected ghost of DeVante Parker.  Davis is a similar player to Parker.  He is a big, powerful outside receiver who wins down the field.  Stef Diggs looks to be the highest owned receiver on the slate, and I will certainly have my shares.  That said, we’ve seen Davis’ upside and at 1/5th the ownership, he makes for an interesting tournament play.

4- Rashod Bateman, $5,600 on DraftKings

I was genuinely surprised to see the Bateman is projected to be less than 4% owned this week against Buffalo.  The second year receiver is coming off his worst game of the season with only 2 grabs for 59 yards against New England.  He did, however, score touchdowns in his previous two outings this season, including a 108 yard performance verse Miami.  Lamar loves to target Bateman deep and he will need to sling it to keep pace with the Bills.

Mark Andrews is clearly Jackson’s number one target, but he will command 3 to 4x as much ownership as Bateman.  I like Bateman as a way to get different in the game that everyone is going to stack.

5- Dallas DST, $3,500 on DraftKings

I love starting almost any home DST against Carson Wentz.  He is a turnover machine who holds the ball too long and takes unnecessary sacks.  The Eagles sacked Wentz 9 times last week and Dallas probably has a better pass rush.  The Cowboys pressured Daniel Jones constantly Monday night and sacked him 5 times.  Trevon Diggs wills be looking to jump a Wentz pass and take it the other way.  If he succeeds, Dallas could be the defense you need to win GPPs.

6- George Pickens, $3,800 on DraftKings

The impressive Steeler rookie has played 76 % of offensive snaps to start the season.  He is coming off a 7 target outing against Cleveland, which included a 36-yard, one-handed catch which will be shown on highlight reels for years.  Pickens brings the extra value of being leverage off Diontae Johnson.  Diontae is underpriced for his target volume at only $6,000, but he is going to be heavily owned.  If a $3,800 Pickens, at 1-2% ownership even comes close to matching an 18% owned Johnson at $6,000, you are gaining a huge advantage on the field.

Sauce Gardner is far and away the best defensive back on the Jets.  One would expect him to cover Johnson.  This could lead to more looks for the secondary receiving options like Pickens.  If you want to play Josh Allen, Diggs, Andrews, and the chalk RBs, you are going to need to find a couple cheap and low owned plays.  George Pickens fits that bill.
