NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 10/28/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Weird slate here with some backup goalies most likely playing, as well as some nearly must win spots for some teams. I say that because if the Blue Jackets lose to Boston, they will then be 3-6 with some major soul searching to do. The Canucks finally won a game last night, and now will be most likely feeding their backup goalie (Spencer Martin) to the Penguins, fun times. Fun fact is that David Pastrnak kills the Blue Jackets, especially ever since their 2nd round loss to the Bruins in 2019. I also really like the Jets big boys against the Coyotes. Frederik Anderen will probably be the chalkiest goalie on the slate, followed by Linus Ullmark. With that also being said, the Blue Jackets are a dangerous offensive team, and made the switch to Jack Roslovic as their top line center.

Correlated Snipe #1

Travis Boyd – Clayton Keller – Shayne Gostisbehere

The Yotes baby! Maybe the first and last write up of them this season, but who knows. The Yotes in general are bad, but Keller and Gostisbehere are good; and, they are playing their first home game of the season. Shayne Gostisbehere has 8 points, including 4 goals, in 7 games; go ahead and be a game-log investigator. He would actually be a super early candidate for the Norris Trophy. Boyd and Keller also correlate on the top powerplay unit, and obviously the Ghost is there as well. The Jets are on the second day of a back to back, and are playing the crappy netminder that is David Rittich (most likely). I hate to say it, but the Yotes are my team tonight, and people hate playing them.

Correlated Snipe #2

Nathan Mackinnon – Mikko Rantanen – Arturri Lechkonen

This one I will keep short. Lineup builds tonight will include 1 big boy stack; which includes the Avs, Bruins, Penguins, or Jets. Obviously my favorite spot of those teams is the Avs against the Devils. The Devils goaltending sucks, which tonight includes crappy Vitek Vanecek. The Devils as a team will have to win games by just going all out offense, and 8/10 times I think the Avs are just too good and better at that. I would bet that the Avs cram 5 goals in tonight, and i they do, there is a good chance that it was Mackinnon and company.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

David Jiricek – First ever NHL game, 2nd powerplay unit, 100 plus mph clappers. This kid will be a Blue Jacket forever.

Grinder #2

Mason Appleton – On DFO is cracking the Jets’ top line, which is too good to pass up.

Grinder #3

Jack Roslovic – Gets the nod and is centering Patrik Laine and Johnny Gaudreau.

Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd.  😉
