NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 10/27/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Giant slate with tons of games and tons of big spots to choose from. A couple of my favorite spots include the Boston/Detroit game, as well as the Chicago/Edmonton game. The main pieces of the Boston/Detroit game are a bit expensive, and I mostly like the Bruins in that game, to bring the Red Wings back to reality. McDavid/Draisaitl and Matthews are all on this slate, so this could get super weird. Most people will be all over the Edmonton big boys, especially with Matthews and the Leafs off to a slow start; but, where they zig, I zag in tournaments. I will continue to beat the dead horse; the Leafs will explode at some point. Jack Campbell will be the chalk goalie in my opinion.

Correlated Snipe #1

Tage Thompson – Jeff Skinner – Alex Tuch

You can also throw Rasmus Dahlin in here if you really love the Sabres at home against the Canadiens. News flash, I do. Alex Tuch and Rasmus Dahlin have like all of the goals this year for the somehow really good Sabres, and the scoring will eventually balance out. Thompson may not be a perennial 40 goal scorer like he was last year, but there is no way he completely forgot how to score. I mean they paid him like $56M to score and be their top line center. These guys also correlate on the top powerplay unit. I am just going with them again and letting the chips fall where they may.

Correlated Snipe #2

Kirill Kaprizov – Mats Zuccarello – Calen Addison

The Ottawa Senators love playing in crazy high scoring games, and the Wild are a team that may oblige. Kirill Kaprizov needs no introduction, being one of the best players in the entire NHL, and his chemistry with Zuccarello is unmatched. Zuccarello has 10 points in 6 games this season, and has no signs of slowing down either. I don’t really like their center, Gaudreau, who is not on their top powerplay unit with them. So, instead, enter Calen Addison. A young talented defenseman that runs their top powerplay unit. Addison has yet to score, but has 6 assists in his 6 games played. The Senators blueline is poop-poop magoo, and they may also be without their starting goaltender in Anton Forsberg. The Senators are going to have to beat teams by outscoring them, so this could be a full game stack; however, I really love the Wild’s position here.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

Nick Robertson – Talented, plays on second Leafs line with Tavares, and wants to prove to everyone that he is a legit NHL player. Leafs are at poopy San Jose.

Grinder #2

Max Domi – Top center, at home, against the Oilers. Cheap, and this could be a crazy game. The Oilers are also on the second game of a back to back.

Grinder #3

Matty Beniers – Too cheap on DraftKings. Goals in back to back games and his price decreased. At home against the dumpster-fire Vancouver Canucks.

Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd.  😉
