NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 10/25/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Giant slate with tons of games and tons of big spots to choose from. A couple of my favorite spots include the Buffalo/Seattle game, as well as a Detroit stack against the Devils. The Devils just gave up 6 to the Caps, and are playing the white hot Red Wings on the road in Detroit in the second leg of a back to back. The Red Wings stock is going up however, so be weary of their salary bumps. Dallas is going from Ottawa to Boston on the second day of a back to back, so I really like Bruins stacks as well for tournaments, even though Jake Oettinger should be in net for the Stars. Whomever Columbus trots out there in goal should be the chalkiest goalie on the slate as they are up against the Coyotes at home.

Johnny Gaudreau – Boone Jenner – Gustav Nyquist

Not sexy, but they are at home against the Coyotes, who I am attacking. The Blue Jackets are 3-4 on the season playing primarily cup contenders. They have also been without Patrik Laine, and have had bad goaltending. The Blue Jackets big boys failed to score in the 5-1 win against the Rangers, but I expect that to change here. The Blue Jackets also have not scored a powerplay goal all year; and I expect that to change as well. This is a great opportunity for the Jackets to get back to 500, and get things going in the right direction. The top line correlates on the top powerplay unit as well as getting around 20 minutes a night. Boone Jenner loves to shoot and block shots, and Johnny Gaudreau )even without Laine), is still producing offense at a nice clip so far this season.

Jonathan Huberdeau – Elias Lindholm – Tyler Toffoli

Again I am writing up the Flames. They are simply too cheap. We are in the market of buying good players and stacks at bargains, in good spots. The Flames are at home against the Penguins, who are going to be facing Casey DeSmith on the 2nd game of a back to back. The Penguins are old and as I am typing this are in a barn burner against the Oilers. Canada trips are tough, and I expect Calgary to be fully aware of this situation; and come right at the Penguins. The Flames are going to beat these old geezers and put them in a retirement home for a one night stay. Like I said earlier, I like Detroit vs the New Jersey possibly more, but the Wings are trending up and are more expensive. Give me the more talented, lower owned, cheaper stack that is due to go off.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

Kent Johnson – Blue Jackets 2nd liner, and 2nd powerplay unit. The 20 year old 5th overall pick has scored in back to back games. If not stacking Columbus, maybe grab this youngster.

Grinder #2

Jack Johnson – Free shot block bonus

Grinder #3

Dylan Guenther – The Blue Jackets give up goals, and this youngster is primed to start showing what he can do.

Grinder #4

Matty Beniers – Too cheap on DraftKings

Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd.  😉
