My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. For the postseason, I have created a new sheet under our Cheat Sheets. I look into the Pitch Profile match-ups for each game, a definite MUST READ!

New York Yankees @ Houston Astros (-195)
Pitchers:
Yankees – Jameson Taillon
Astros – Justin Verlander
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7. The Yankees took the air out of the Guardians balloon quickly last night. They don’t get to celebrate much as they had to head to Houston right away but I wouldn’t be shocked by a little hot start by them. I know Verlander is rested and ready but I think the Yankees can carry over some power magic early. People are going to talk about the quick turn around and exhaustion but I think that hurts them as the series goes on, not initially.
The Astros made quick work of everybody’s darling, the Seattle Mariners. Guys like Tucker and Altuve match-up with Taillon extremely well while Alvarez had been the hottest hitter in the postseason before Bryce Harper went all Aaron Judge like on baseballs. I honestly thought that Taillon matched up well with the Guardians and would have won that game had it not been rained out. This isn’t the same kind of match-up so I have to love the Astros bats against him.

Philadelphia Phillies @ San Diego Padres (-120)
Pitchers:
Phillies – Aaron Nola
Padres – Blake Snell
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 6.5. Last night’s game 1 was excellent as Wheeler was dominant and Darvish nearly matched him. We certainly could see something similar tonight but I do think there’s a wider range of outcomes with these two SPs. Harper just keeps hitting HRs but he gets a tough match-up with the lefty, Blake Snell. Realmuto and Hoskins are the guys that I think step up for PHI tonight.
The Padres bats looked lost at the plate last night and it doesn’t get any easier tonight. Nola can be just as dominant as Wheeler but he has a bit more volatility to his game. The Padres need Juan Soto to do damage and I think a guy like Wil Myers can produce against Nola. Of course, we get to see a Nola vs Nola match-up where Aaron has gotten the better of Austin in previous match-ups.
