My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. For the postseason, I have created a new sheet under our Cheat Sheets. I look into the Pitch Profile match-ups for each game, a definite MUST READ!

Cleveland Guardians @ New York Yankees (-170)
Pitchers:
Guardians – Aaron Civale
Yankees – Nestor Cortes
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7. I will be honest, I felt really good about how I was going to attack this game yesterday. Civale getting the ball is a bit of a surprise to me as I would have thought they’d consider Bieber (3-days rest) with the bullpen that they have. Civale doesn’t match-up with the Yankees very well in this spot. He has an ERA nearing 6 on the road and the Yankees lit him up twice this season. Add in that he shows slight reverse splits and you get a recipe for a couple of HRs from the Yankees (and he’s given up 2 HRs in 3 of his last 5 starts).
I still believe that the Yankees are in a great spot but I have some worries about Cortes on 3-days rest. Cortes gets a plus match-up even though CLE was pesky against him in this series. The issue is that I am not sure how he reacts going on 3-days rest. I will be spending the morning digging into the pitch profile, which I have added to our cheat sheets for VIP members! I am still going to call an Anthony Rizzo HR today.

Philadelphia Phillies @ San Diego Padres (-125)
Pitchers:
Phillies – Zack Wheeler
Padres – Yu Darvish
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 6.5. I am not sure there is a hotter hitter in baseball right now than Bryce Harper. He stepped up big time in the last series as he keeps racking up extra-base hits. The key for the Phillies will be getting Schwarber to wake up. I expect there to be a ton of strikeouts in this game as guys come in a little tight against the opposing team’s ace. Just like with all of the postseason series’, nailing the HRs will be key to our DFS success.
The Padres need Josh Bell to wake up and that could happen a little bit in this game. He has had power success against Wheeler, as has Juan Soto. I understand the Vegas line but I am going to lean ever so slightly to the Phillies side in this match-up.
