My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Spencer Strider
  • Logan Webb
  • Lucas Giolito

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. With features that allow you to Like 😀 Love 😍 or Dislike 😡 a player, you can create a fully unique pool of players to generate your lineups from every day. Combine the power of the Domination Station with our VIP Only Articles and the MLB Research Station to really take your game to the next level.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ San Francisco Giants (-250)

Pitchers:

Pirates – Tyler Beede

Giants – Logan Webb

Rundown:

This game opened with a total of 7.5. We should see some dominance from Webb at home while the SF offense tries to put together back-to-back performances. I really think they wake up and put up 8+ in this game. I just don’t know who will be the one to hit a double-dong. We shouldn’t forget about what the SF LHBs are capable of doing.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ben Gamel

GPP Note: Team ISO of .096 over the last week.

SF 5-star plays: Joc Pederson

4-star plays: Wilmer Flores, Mike Yastrzemski

GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 over the last week.

New York Yankees (-145) @ Boston Red Sox

Pitchers:

Yankees – Frankie Montas

Red Sox – Kutter Crawford

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. I know that BOS has swung the bat decently well but I think Montas offers us a TON of upside and I wouldn’t be shocked to see the total move down to 9. Crawford has actually impressed me as an SP but the Yankees are just so damn dangerous.

NYY 5-star plays: Aaron Judge

4-star plays: Josh Donaldson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .128 over the last week.

BOS 5-star plays: Rafael Devers

4-star plays: Tommy Pham

GPP Note: Team ISO of .201 over the last week.

Cleveland Guardians @ Toronto Blue Jays (-125)

Pitchers:

Guardians – Triston McKenzie

Blue Jays – Mitch White

Rundown:

This game opened with a total of 8. I am a bit torn in this spot. I am a fan of McKenzie’s upside but I also LOVE stacking TOR against reverse split RHPs because of all the power they bring to the plate. White is interesting and to be honest, I’m shocked the Dodgers moved him because of what he’s capable of.

CLE 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jose Ramirez, Steven Kwan

GPP Note: Team ISO of .097 over the last week.

TOR 5-star plays: Bo Bichette

4-star plays: Vlad Guerrero Jr.

GPP Note: Team ISO of .160 over the last week.

Baltimore Orioles @ Tampa Bay Rays (-190)

Pitchers:

Orioles – DL Hall

Rays – Shane McClanahan

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. Hall is a big-time prospect making his debut, in a pretty plus spot. We know that the TB offense can struggle quite a bit. McClanahan hasn’t been sharp in his last two starts but he has been dominant against BAL this season and until I am told otherwise, I have to believe he is going to go back to his dominant self.

BAL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jorge Mateo, Cedric Mullins

GPP Note: Team ISO of .166 over the last week.

TB 5-star plays: Randy Arozarena

4-star plays: Brandon Lowe

GPP Note: Team ISO of .120 over the last week.

Arizona Diamondbacks (-145) @ Colorado Rockies

Pitchers:

D’Backs – Zac Gallen

Rockies – Jose Urena

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 11.5. If we base this one purely on SPs, the D’Backs are in a FAR better spot than the Rockies are. Gallen is making his 4th start against COL this season, his 2nd one in Coors. He threw a quality start in his first Coors appearance of 2022. I think we still build COL stacks because it is Coors, after all.

ARI 5-star plays: Daulton Varsho

4-star plays: Christian Walker

GPP Note: Team ISO of .128 over the last week.

COL 5-star plays: Randal Grichuk

4-star plays: Charlie Blackmon

GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 over the last week.

Los Angeles Dodgers (-240) @ Kansas City Royals

Pitchers:

Dodgers – Andrew Heaney

Royals – Brad Keller

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. The Dodgers are treating Heaney with kid gloves but he is yet to allow more than 1 earned run in an appearance. He may only go 5 innings but you have to love what he has done, showcasing the stuff that made him a top prospect a number of years ago. The LAD offense should always be stacked.

LAD 5-star plays: Mookie Betts

4-star plays: Trea Turner, Justin Turner

GPP Note: Team ISO of .256 over the last week.

KC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Salvador Perez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .190 over the last week.

San Diego Padres (-305) @ Washington Nationals

Pitchers:

Padres – Yu Darvish

Nationals – Anibal Sanchez

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. I really wanted to be ALL about SD today but the Tatis news could be a death blow to the SD focus and determination. It’s really tough to gauge how the team will respond but I wouldn’t fault them for coming out flat, even in a GREAT match-up. The other end is that they could come out pissed off and take it out on Sanchez. Darvish is in such a great spot that I wouldn’t be shocked if he faltered a bit.

SD 5-star plays: Manny Machado

4-star plays: Brandon Drury, Juan Soto

GPP Note: Team ISO of .163 over the last week.

WSH 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Joey Meneses

GPP Note: Team ISO of .142 over the last week.

Philadelphia Phillies @ New York Mets (-195)

Pitchers:

Phillies – Aaron Nola

Mets – Jacob deGrom

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 6.5. We get an elite-level pitching match-up today even though the Mets bats have hit Nola pretty well in their careers. deGrom has looked great in his return and he’s always going to showcase elite upside, even if he’s limited by an inning or pitch limit.

PHI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: JT Realmuto

GPP Note: Team ISO of .296 over the last week.

NYM 5-star plays: Pete Alonso

4-star plays: Tyler Naquin, Francisco Lindor

GPP Note: Team ISO of .136 over the last week.

MLB DFS Research Projections

Atlanta Braves (-125) @ Miami Marlins – Game 1

Pitchers:

Braves – Kyle Muller

Marlins – Jesus Luzardo

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. Muller didn’t look great earlier this year but he gets such a great match-up that he might need to make my pitcher pool. Luzardo, when healthy, has really flashed what made him the game’s top pitching prospect just a few seasons ago. The Braves do have a few guys who dominate LHPs.

ATL 5-star plays: Austin Riley

4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr

GPP Note: Team ISO of .199 over the last week.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Charles LeBlanc

GPP Note: Team ISO of .107 over the last week.

Atlanta Braves @ Miami Marlins – Game 2

Pitchers:

Braves – Ian Anderson

Marlins – Undecided

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

ATL 5-star plays: Austin Riley

4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr

GPP Note: Team ISO of .199 over the last week.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: JJ Bleday

GPP Note: Team ISO of .107 over the last week.

Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox (-220)

Pitchers:

Tigers -Matt Manning

White Sox – Lucas Giolito

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. I really want to be overweight on Giolito but the Tigers actually hit him really well. It’s one of those make-or-break spots for me today. Manning has looked fairly decent and he gets a White Sox lineup that is underwhelming, to say the least. Might be a game we target pitching and one-off bats.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Javy Baez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .108 over the last week

CWS 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Yasmani Grandal, Eloy Jimenez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .127 over the last week.

Milwaukee Brewers (-135) @ St Louis Cardinals

Pitchers:

Brewers -Corbin Burnes

Cardinals – Adam Wainwright

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. If we base this match-up purely on BvP history, the Brewers are in a far great spot. But if we base it off of recent play, the Cardinals are in far better shape. There are definitely guys on both sides with strong BvP history but we know that both pitchers can dominate the opposition.

MIL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Andrew McCutchen, Hunter Renfroe

GPP Note: Team ISO of .168 over the last week

STL 5-star plays: Paul Goldschmidt

4-star plays: Corey Dickerson, Paul DeJong

GPP Note: Team ISO of .244 over the last week.

MLB DFS Winning Lineups $50,000

Oakland Athletics @ Houston Astros (-285)

Pitchers:

Athletics – Zach Logue

Astros – Lance McCullers Jr

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. McCullers is making his 2022 debut so we will have to monitor news on potential pitch counts in play. The HOU lineup is in a plus spot as Logue has given up about 1.8 HR/9 at the MLB level this season. Their overall lineup is a bit colder but they have guys who can turn it on in an instant.

OAK 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ramon Laureano, Stephen Vogt

GPP Note: Team ISO of .088 over the last week.

HOU 5-star plays: Jose Altuve

4-star plays: Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker

GPP Note: Team ISO of .141 over the last week.

Chicago Cubs @ Cincinnati Reds (-120)

Pitchers:

Cubs – Adrian Sampson

Reds – Graham Ashcraft

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. I never ignore games in Cincinnati but this game really doesn’t excite me all that much. Neither offense is dominant in any way and both pitchers are just capable enough to contain the opposition. I think the best way to attack this one is with mini-stacks.

CHC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Nico Hoerner, Christopher Morel

GPP Note: Team ISO of .106 over the last week.

CIN 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Joey Votto, Kyle Farmer

GPP Note: Team ISO of .123 over the last week.

Seattle Mariners @ Texas Rangers (-115)

Pitchers:

Mariners – Marco Gonzales

Rangers – Dane Dunning

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I was initially shocked to see Texas favored but as I looked at some numbers, I now understand why. The TEX bats have hit Gonzales better than SEA has hit Dunning. Neither offense is actually tearing it up right now so it becomes a spot for one-offs and mini-stacks.

SEA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Mitch Haniger, Julio Rodriguez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .124 over the last week.

TEX 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Adolis Garcia, Jonah Heim

GPP Note: Team ISO of .121 over the last week.

Minnesota Twins (-115) @ Los Angeles Angels

Pitchers:

Twins – Dylan Bundy

Angels – Reid Detmers

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Detmers has allowed all of 4 earned runs over his last 31 innings (5 starts). Bundy gets a little revenge narrative game where he is a road favorite. We know the Angels’ offense has been painfully bad so there’s definitely upside. Detmers has been so strong that it makes it tough to be on the Twins, even if I do love them against LHPs.

MIN 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Byron Buxton, Gio Urshela

GPP Note: Team ISO of .180 over the last week.

LAA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: David Fletcher, Shohei Ohtani

GPP Note: Team ISO of .120 over the last week.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers
  2. Arizona Diamondbacks
  3. San Diego Padres

MLB Dinger of the Day – Manny Machado, Padres
