Buying in on Ken Walker’s fantasy stock isn’t as easy as it was a few days ago. Today it was announced that Walker missed practice due to a hernia and there is no timetable for him to return at this time. It is safe to assume that the Seahawks will handle Ken Walker’s injury very delicately. Expect him to miss the season opener.
Head Coach Pete Carroll made a statement regarding Ken Walker’s injury, “Ken’s got a little hernia thing that he’s working on and we’ve got to get through that. So I don’t know what to tell you yet, but it’s something that we can attend to and all that … “

Sports hernias are extremely delicate. Looking at Fantasy Point’s injury glossary, you can see that a hernia typically takes 1-to-3 weeks without surgery and 6-to-8 weeks (or more) if surgery is required.
Here is the full scope of a sports hernia according to Fantasy Point’s website, “Depending on severity, players can return faster but are at increased risk of re-injury if they take the non-surgical route. If they have surgery to repair the injury, it takes them up to 8 weeks (or more) to be back at full strength.”
All of this comes after Walker began making noise at Seattle’s camp. According to SI.com’s Daniel Flick, Walker had made serious strides in major parts of his game. “You asked about surprises… I’m surprised [Walker’s] so well-rounded.” Head coach Pete Carroll continued, “A runner, he’s blocking; I think I mentioned it the other day, but his pass-protection stuff, he just turned the page. I mean he was not very good in college as a pass protector, and we didn’t know.”
The Fantasy Breakdown
Managers need to monitor this injury as Walker could return around the start of the season, but that’s best case scenario. If Walker were to receive surgery it would be difficult to hold him without an IR-spot; it may be up to 10 weeks of recovery/rehab. Currently Walker has an average draft position of RB36 (88 overall). On the contrary this boosts Rashaad Penny’s stock further up. Penny was even seen returning to practice on Tuesday according to Seattle’s beat reporters. Penny is being drafted as the RB30 (80 overall).
