The Simple Six | DFS NFL Week 12 Leans for DraftKings and Fanduel

Welcome to the week 12 NFL main slate. Week 11 was a doozy. I had some good calls in last week’s article. Nick Chubb and Joe Mixon both crushed the more popular value RBs. Mooney (26.1 DK points) was a great pivot off the Tee Higgins (3.5 DK points) chalk. Paying up for Kelce (18.8 DK points) was better than punting with Kmet (2.2 DK points) or Dan Arnold (a fat zero).

Absolutely none of that mattered because I didn’t have any Jonathan Taylor and mixed those sharp plays in almost exclusively with Dak or Mahomes stacks.  I don’t know how many times you’d have to play that game again before Dak and Mahomes combined to throw for zero touchdowns.  If you are going to take a hard stand on a game, you have to be willing suffer the consequences of an outlier outcome that sinks you.

Here are six plays that I am going use to try to get off the mat in week 12.

1- Miles Sanders, $5,100 on DraftKings and $6,100 on Fanduel NFL

Weirdly, Eagles head coach Nick Sirriani waited until his starting RB Miles Sanders got hurt to figure out that they were best served to be a run heavy offense with Jalen Hurts under center.  The 3-headed-monster of Jordan Howard, Boston Scott and Kenny Gainwell was frustrating for fantasy owners, but effective on the field.

Sanders returned from a 3 game absence and surprisingly posted season NFL highs in carries (16) and rushing yards (94).  Those are encouraging numbers, going into a crucial division matchup against the Giants.  Sanders will likely still lose pass down work the Scott/Gainwell combo, but Jordan Howard has been ruled out with a knee injury.  This means that Sanders should be a near lock for the early down, and crucial goal line carries.

Philly is the 3.5 point favorite and has a healthy 24.5 point implied team total.  Sanders’ failings as fantasy performer have always been more about a lack of usage than talent.  I’ll take the explosive runner who is not priced for the potential 20 total touches that he might receive in a plus matchup.

2- Laviska Shenault, $4,400 on DraftKings and $5,600 on Fanduel

It seems like the daily fantasy community has been trying desperately for ages to make Laviska Shenault happen.  I think this might finally be the week.  All it took was missing Kadarius Toney in the draft, season ending injuries to Travis Etienne and DJ Chark, and an IR stint for Jamal Agnew, but Urban Meyers appears to be ready to put the ball in the versital Viska’s hands.  ESPN’s Field Yates tweeted that Meyers intends to create some “touches out of the backfield” for Shenault.

We currently have Viska showing the 3rd highest fantasy point per dollar number of any WR on the slate and he’s not projected to be terribly high owned.  VIPs can track these number through on the Domination Station right up to lock on Sunday.  If Shenault continues to project at reasonable ownership, he will be my favorite paydown at receiver.  I also like Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, who is similarly cheap and the last man standing in Tennessee, but I’d rather attack the Falcon’s D, than the Patriots’.

3- Elijah Moore, $5,600 on DraftKings

With Corey Davis downgraded to doubtful, Elijah Moore is a wide receiver one who is not priced like it.  Over the last five NFL games Moore is averaging 19.3 DraftKings points and he’s done it with 4 different QBs under center.  Now he is the clear number one target in the offense with Davis and Michael Carter sidelined.  He’s playing indoors, against an awful Texans defense.

Moore might go overlooked because he’s the exact same price as Michael Pittman who is also a great play in a much sexier game.  I’ll certainly have plenty of Pittman in cash and TB/Indy game stacks, but in large field GPPs there is merit to playing Moore at half ownership.

4- Rob Gronkowski, NFL $4,400 on DraftKings

I believe Gronk is pretty clearly the best TE play, price considered, on this slate.  If your life depended on it, and you had to pick one tight end to score a touch down this week, who would it be?  Honestly, with AB out and Mike Evans hobbled with a back injury, I think I’d take Gronk.  I wouldn’t blame you if you said George Kittle, and I’ll certainly have exposure to him in game Vikings/Niners game stacks.  That said, you are getting a full $2,000 discount on Gronk relative to Kittle.

Gronk looked healthy last week while receiving 8 targets, which matched his season high.  Give me Gronk, as a cheap way into the best game, with the highest total on the slate.  It is also hard not to love Chris Godwin at $7,000 in this spot.  The DK NFL pricing algorithm, for some reason was kind to Tampa Bay.

5- Kenny Golladay, $5,100 on DraftKings and $5,900

I am willing to bet that at least one or two Giants see a post Jason Garrett bump.  Saquon Barkley is certainly a candidate at only $6,300 on DK, but I like Golladay in this spot.  We already know that Sterling Sheppard is out and Kadarius Toney is listed as Doubtful.  Daniel Jones will have to throw to someone, and it makes sense that new play caller Freddy Kitchen will look to get the ball in the hands of the man that the franchise paid $70 million this offseason.

A cheap, low-owned Golladay could get peppered with targets in this spot as a home dog, facing a NFL division rival.

6- Christian McCaffrey, $9,000 on DraftKings

Pretty much everyone I’ve given you so far is low priced, so it’s time to pay up.  If you are going to pay up, you might as well buy the best.  In his third game back from injury, he finally received the full McCaffrey work load that made him a fantasy super star.  McCaffrey played 90% of the snaps last week vs. Washington racking up 24.9 DK points.  The usage is there, but we are still waiting for the massive slate breaking game that we know McCaffrey is capable of.

This should be a competitive game with a 2 point spread.  Both Carolina and Miami desperately need the win to keep their playoff hopes alive.  The Panthers will not hesitate to feature their most dynamic weapon in this spot.  In cash or smaller field tournaments, there are worse floor plays to make the pairing McCaffrey with a still too cheap Cam ($5,600 on DK) and essentially locking in all of Carolina’s touchdowns.

Good luck this weekend, and may all your lineups be live!!
