WNBA Strategy Picks for Today

Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Dream @ Indiana Fever

It begins with Courtney Williams. She’s arguably the best player on this Dream team and her shot has been falling to start the season. She’s a fantastic shooter and will look to exploit some opportunities here tonight. Tiffany Hayes had a subpar first game in two years last time out, but she’ll look to get on track in this one. Chennedy Carter finally found her legs last game and is GPP viable here too. In the frontcourt, your go-to options remain Tianna Hawkins and Monique Billings. They’ll be desperately needed here tonight.

For the Fever, we begin in the frontcourt with Teaira McCowan. She gets a fantastic matchup here tonight. She matches up excellently with Liz Williams and won’t get overworked there. So far this season Jessica Breland has averaged around 17 MPG, and with Jantel Lavendar and now Bernadett Hatar available it is hard to see where she gets minutes from. However, Breland is playing a former team she starred for here and could look to make an impact even in limited minutes. On the guard side of things, I’ve given up on speaking the virtues of Victoria Vivians until she shows something this season. For now, stick with Danielle Robinson and Kelsey Mitchell who have been fantastic.

5-Star Play: Teaira McCowan, Courtney Williams

4-Star Play: Chennedy Carter, Danielle Robinson, Kelsey Mitchell

GPP Sleeper: Tianna Hawkins

Deep Value: Jessica Breland

New York Liberty @ Washington Mystics

Sabrina Ionescu is flying hot right now after registering her first – and only the 9th in WNBA history – triple-double. She has been phenomenal to start the season and her career and will look to continue that streak here. Helping in the backcourt is Betnijah Laney who is a straight-up scorer, although she’ll have to deal with formidable defense from Ariel Atkins tonight. Sami Whitcomb continues to impress in her role with the Liberty, helping space the floor and keeping defenses honest. There’s not much to love DFS-wise in the frontcourt here, with Michaela Onyenwere being an option due to the minutes she is getting.

For the Mystics, it begins with Tina Charles welcoming her former team. This should be one for the record books for Charles. She gets to show out here and the matchup is fantastic to boot. Kylee Shook and Kiah Stokes shouldn’t be able to stop Charles here. With Hines-Allen and EDD still out, Erica McCall will once again get minutes for this Mystics team and makes for a nice value option. Natasha Cloud and Ariel Atkins will be needed here to get their team a win they desperately need tonight.

5-Star Play: Tina Charles, Sabrina Ionescu

4-Star Play: Betnijah Laney, Natasha Cloud, Sami Whitcomb, Ariel Atkins

GPP Sleeper: Erica McCall

Deep Value: Erica McCall

NASCAR Draftkings Fanduel

Connecticut Sun @ Phoenix Mercury

The second meeting between these two this season and we can go right back to DeWanna Bonner here. I know she disappointed last time out, but she put up 45 fpts here the other night and it is a game she always suits up for. Jonquel Jones has been all that we hoped to start the season, however, she gets a tough matchup against Griner here. She struggled a little in the first meeting (if you call 35 fpts struggling) but she makes a nice contrarian option here. With Briann January out tonight, you want to get Natisha Hiedeman in your lineup. She’s making an early case for the most improved player this season. Finally, Brionna Jones will get minutes tonight, you can take a flyer on her putting them to use.

Brittney Griner gets another crack at Jonquel Jones tonight. She’ll want to show up in this one and make a statement, easier said than done. It’s a tough matchup, but Griner can perform in it. Diana Taurasi and Skylar Diggins-Smith will be needed here tonight if their team is going to defend their home court. Taurasi has the scoring ability to make an impact in this game. Brianna Turner has been solid to start the season and she gets another chance to keep that form going. It’s a good matchup for her tonight and she’ll look to make the most of it.

5-Star Play: DeWanna Bonner, Natisha Hiedeman

4-Star Play: Jonquel Jones, Brittney Griner, Dianna Taurasi, Brianna Turner

GPP Sleeper: Brionna Jones

Deep Value: Kaila Charles

Los Angeles Sparks @ Las Vega Aces

The Ogwumike sisters are the drivers of this Sparks team and they’ll be called on tonight. The Aces have size in the frontcourt, necessitating that both Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike play solid minutes tonight to deal with them. As long as the game is close, expect the sisters to play 30+ minutes here. Helping them out will be the trio of Kristi Toliver, Britney Sykes, and Nia Coffey. These three players all have the ability to have solid games in this matchup, but it is hard to tell who among them will live up to the moment.

The Aces have been solid to start the season, with A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage leading the way. Wilson has been her usual self, dominating games. Cambage is slowly growing into the season with her minutes increasing from game to game. She should see around 25 minutes tonight, which is more than enough for her to crush value on this slate. She is such an unstoppable force. Jackie Young is quietly having a strong season and makes for a nice option on the slate as well. Chelsea Gray gets to take on her former team here. The matchup is excellent for her and she is finding her form on the season as well.

5-Star Play: A’ja Wilson, Liz Cambage, Nneka Ogwumike, Chelsea Gray

4-Star Play: Chiney Ogwumike, Jackie Young

GPP Sleeper: Kristi Toliver

Deep Value: Nia Coffey
