NHL DFS Power Picks: Fanduel + Draftkings Top Tiers Plays | March 5th
NHL Tier 1
With Boston being in a substandard matchup tonight, we can look at pure production recently. My tiers lineups are starting with Patrick Kane (CHI). DeBrincat (CHI) got the goal last night, but Kane has held the consistency we want for most of the season and averages over a point per game for the Blackhawks regardless of their rebuilding status.
DFS Hockey Tier 2
Again, I’m avoiding Boston, so that leaves me with Tampa skaters here. If I’m looking at a floor for cash games, it’s hard to beat Victor Hedman and his shot/block floor. However, if I want a similar floor with upside to put up a lot of fantasy points, Steven Stamkos becomes a slight cut above Hedman in this tier for me.
NHL Tier 3
If I want to continue the correlation of Tampa skaters, I can take Palat (TB) here. But, if I’m playing cash formats, I typically want to avoid overexposure to any particular game or offense. And, I would also focus on plays with higher floors that are less likely to bust my lineups. Enter Max Pacioretty (VGK). Pacioretty leads the tier in shots on goal recently and fantasy points per game over his last ten outings. Vegas is in one of the better scoring spots on the night as a team, and these factors make my decision. I wouldn’t completely sleep, however, on Rantanen (COL) if MacKinnon rests. Rantanen may become the defacto play maker here and leapfrog Pacioretty in upside potential in a spot people might be a little hesitant to play him…..solid tourney option!

DFS Hockey Tier 4
San Jose is not in a good matchup tonight, but your best combination of floor and upside may still be Logan Couture. If not looking his way, Alex Pietrangelo (VGK) correlates really well with Pacioretty in Tier3, and also carries the highest shot/block floor of the bunch…making for a safer option. A nice GPP pivot could be David Perron (STL), but you are banking on the hot STL power play to keep form and the LA Kings penalty kill to show a weakness the Blues can exploit.
NHL Tier 5
Another Vegas skater, Shea Theodore, offers a huge floor here for cash game formats. If taking the chance on Rantanen in Tier3, Gabriel Landeskog (COL) correlates nicely for a double dip of that top line and power play unit. And, for pure contrarian slate-breaking power, Evander Kane (SJ) has the most pure upside and should carry very low ownership for you gamblers.
DFS Hockey Tier 6
Our bottom third of tiers are all fairly wide open. I’m intrigued by Kadri (COL) as the defacto replacement if Nathan Mackinnon were to sit this one out…and a sneaky play it will be. Kevin Fiala (MIN) has cooled off, but going back 20 games, still has the most stable floor of the tier. I might just gamble on the heating up Kadri and be done with this tier personally.

NHL Tier 7
More muddy waters here. Alec Martinez (VGK) has 35 blocks in 10 games and provides a crazy high floor in cash games. Torey Krug (STL) offers some correlation with a David Perron and also offers a nice floor, but upside as the offensive-minded quarterback of the heating up STL power play. If pairing up Tampa Lightning skaters, another option could be Palat here. And, if you really want to go on a limb with the CHI PP units, one of the lower owned skaters in the entire tiers format will likely be Chicago’s Kubalik…who actually has the highest ceiling of the tier.
DFS Hockey Tier 8
There are no clear “ceiling plays” in this dumpster fire of a tier. If you want a floor in Colorado, Girard is clearly your best option. You can run him solo, pair him with Kadri, or really stack things up with Rantanen and Landeskog, also. There is one recently hot goal scorer here in Cirelli (TB) and his 5 goals in 10 games. But, goals are flukey and hard to chase/predict, so tread lightly.
