Las Vegas

Las Vegas Motor Speedway will host both the Xfinity and Truck Series this week. LVMS is a 1.5 mile track with progressive banking in the corners. The banking ranges from 12 to 20 degrees and promotes great side-by-side racing action for both series. Weather, more importantly, the temperature and sun have a big impact on the racing here. The Truck Series is able to run wide open here to start a green flag run. The cooler the track temps are the longer they can run wide open. Once the tires wear off a little then you start to see the best handling trucks drive to the front. For the Xfinity Series, it will be important how much cloud cover there is. They will race in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday. Vegas can be a bit tricky in these Xfinity cars and the slicker the track is the harder it will be. We often see drivers wreck coming out of turn 4 simply by pushing too hard.  This weekend will give us a ton of info on how things will look in 2021 for both series.

Xfinity Series Preview

The Xfinity Series at Vegas is usually a one man show. You will occasionally get a couple of top drivers battling it out but normally it is one driver putting a beating on the field. Because of this, I build lineups with 1 or 2 dominators. Usually, this is with the mindset that one driver will lead the majority of the race and another driver will lead 30ish laps and finish top 3. Of course this week we have another great group of place differential plays that will create a chalky slate. You will need to steer into this chalk and try pairing these place diff plays with that one main dominator. Last year, the JRM cars were the best here aside from Chase Briscoe who is no longer in the field. You may be looking for a driver to lead the first half of the race before a driver like Gragson or Allgaier take over.

RACE INFO

Xfinity Series

Saturday, March 6, 2021

Time: 4:30p.m./et

TV: FS1

Stages (45/45/200 laps= 200 laps)

Defending Champion: Chase Briscoe

Favorite Xfinity Series Play: Justin Allgaier

I expect Gragson and Reddick to see lots of attention. While that attention is rightfully deserved, I am also looking to take advantage of it. Since 2017, seven races, Allgaier has finished all but 1 stage inside the top 10. He has 5 top 5 finishes, an 8th, and a blown motor. He has also led laps in 4 of those races including 63 in this race last year. I like him to finish top 5 again this race.

Last week we kicked everyones ass again and will continue to do so. There were so called touts claiming that Homestead and Vegas were similar. Be careful where you get your NASCAR DFS info from. Truck Series Preview

We all know Kyle Busch is the man to beat this week. He has won his last 3 truck races here while leading 273 laps in those races. The big question will be if he can score enough dom points to truly put himself in the optimal lineup. My biggest reservation for playing Kyle Busch this week will be due to the fact we have so many great place differential plays. Pricing for Zane Smith and Austin Hill will be super important. I also believe that John Hunter Nemechek and Sheldon Creed can hang with Kyle Busch at the front. Because the Truck Series can run a lot of this race wide open, the drivers who get a decent draft on any given lap can score fast laps. This could also spread dominator points around and help keep Busch’s score down. It will be interesting to see what his ownership will be. I like 2 dominators for this race but will be more focused on the place differential drivers.

RACE INFO

Truck Series

9:00pm/et Friday, March 5, 2021

Green flag: (approx.) 9:11pm/et

TV: FS1

(Stages 30/60/134 laps = 134 laps)

Defending Champion: Austin Hill

Favorite Truck Series Play: Austin Hill

Hill has won the last two races here that did not feature Kyle Busch. He also finished 3rd last February in the race Busch won. He will start 31st and should have no problem working his way to the front. I expect him to score some fast laps and potentially contend for the win. His truck really comes to life late here in Vegas.
