NASCAR Atlanta Motor Speedway

Atlanta offers one of the most abrasive and worn out surfaces in all of auto racing. This makes it an ultra-unique track and race compared to other 1.5 mile races. We usually see lap times fall off 3 to 4 seconds per lap over the course of a green flag run. As a result of this long-run speed is absolutely vital. We see the drivers racing the track a lot more than each other. There are very few cautions and relatively speaking we see little variance.

NASCAR DFS Outlook

Dominators

Atlanta is interesting in terms of dominators because Harvick has solo dominate this track so many damn times. Any time there is a race at Atlanta we have to consider him a top threat to lead early and often. I will probably make lineups with two dominators in mind for this particular event. It is very hard to pay for more than 2 of the top dominator threats and still make viable lineups. The Gibbs cars were extremely good here last year and I believe all of us will be paying close attention to Kyle Larson this week.

NASCAR Lineup Construction

On FanDuel I will look to play 2-3 of the top tier drivers. Harvick is offering a decent starting spot to where you don’t necessarily need him to dominate. It just feels a little safer than normal. You aren’t at a super risk if you play him but of course, his upside is huge. On both sites, I like getting a healthy amount of Hamlin, Truex, Larson, etc. Then it will become a work to fill out the lineups with the best value place differential plays. Do we trust Briscoe and Custer? Reddick is viable but a bit costly. Newman, Jones, Chastain aren’t great but viable. There are a lot of different ways to go but none of them feel great. Since picking the dominators is so important you will likely have to make a sacrifice somewhere.

NASCAR Cup Series Top Plays

Martin Truex Jr: Truex has finished 2nd and 3rd here the last two races and he has done so having the fastest car in the race. 5 top 5s and 8 top 8s in last 9 races here across 3 different teams

Ryan Newman: Newman has raced here twice since joining Roush-Fenway Racing. He has scored finishes of 13th and 14th. Starting so deep in the field if he can replicate this then he will most likely be on the optimal lineup. Fantastic price point on both sites. I will be hoping for a top 20 and anything inside the top 15 is amazing
