Welcome to another year of the DFS Army NBA Full Court Press! Members had a ton of success using the Full Court Press along with various articles and tools that DFS Army provides last season, so we are glad to be back with another year of the all-inclusive article. You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Michael aka @MadnessDFS on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article. But, you’ll mostly find me in our VIP coaching forums where I provide detailed lineup maneuvers and answer all lineup questions. With that said, let’s get it started!

I want to give a quick shoutout to VIP Member “TheSoprano12” on their $100,000 win earlier this week!! Better go buy a Boban jersey after that one!

All-Star Game Breakdown

Vegas Total: 315

Vegas Spread: Team LeBron James -3.5

Welcome to the NBA All-Star break, hopefully, everyone is able to either take a DFS break or test the water in some other sports like MMA last night or the other variety of CBB, NHL, NASCAR, etc. I’ll start by saying the All-Star game isn’t something that we have a ton of hard data or a great grasp on how things will go due to the fact that some of these guys don’t even want to be here and there is generally very little effort on the defensive end. That said, we did see this change a bit last season when they changed up the scoring a bit to honor Kobe Bryant. Instead of the usual time running out, the 4th quarter is now completed by reaching a “target score” that is calculated by adding 24 points (catching the Kobe tribute now?) to the leading team’s score. So, for example, if the score at the end of the 3rd quarter is Team LeBron James 130 to Team Kevin Durant 121, the game will end once one team hits 154 due to adding that 24 points to the leading team’s score. Now that we’ve got the groundwork laid out, we can take a look at each team.

Team LeBron James:

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo
  • LeBron James
  • Luka Doncic
  • Steph Curry
  • Nikola Jokic
  • Damian Lillard
  • Ben Simmons
  • Jaylen Brown
  • Rudy Gobert
  • Paul George
  • Chris Paul
  • Domantas Sabonis

Team Kevin Durant:

  • James Harden
  • Joel Embiid
  • Kawhi Leonard
  • Kyrie Irving
  • Bradley Beal
  • Jayson Tatum
  • Zach LaVine
  • Devin Booker (OUT)
  • Donovan Mitchell
  • Zion Williamson
  • Nikola Vucevic
  • Julius Randle
  • Mike Conley

Now we can begin to breakdown what the heck to do when starting to build a lineup. Generally, it’s the starters who are the guys you want since they will see the most minutes, however, traditional big men are guys I tend to avoid in All-Star games because it just doesn’t fit their style of play. That said, Rudy Gobert surprised us all last year going for a 21 point double-double, so take that for what it’s worth. If we start by looking at each team’s starters, LeBron will be captain and lead his team with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Steph Curry, and Nikola Jokic. Let’s take a look at how these guys faired in last year’s ASG.

  • LeBron James – 18 minutes, 23 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo – 30 minutes, 25 points, 4 assists, and 11 rebounds
  • Luka Doncic – 17 minutes, 8 points, 4 assists, and 1 rebound
  • Steph Curry – DNP
  • Nikola Jokic – 11 minutes – 5 points, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds

A quick look at that and there should be one guy in particular that stands out and that’s Giannis. He seems to be a guy that goes pretty hard in past All-Star games and likes to throw up a lot of dunks, so he’s one of my favorite options if you can afford him, but really I think I would make him a priority. I think it would be safe to assume this is the lineup we’ll see in the 4th quarter as well when the teams really start to play. Maybe Damian Lillard or Chris Paul gets thrown in there, but I think these are the guys you’ll see with the most minutes from Team LeBron. Let’s jump over to Team Durant and see how their starters faired last year.

  • Kyrie Irving – DNP
  • Kawhi Leonard – 20 minutes, 30 points, 4 assists, and 7 rebounds (MVP)
  • Bradley Beal – DNP
  • Joel Embiid – 29 minutes, 22 points, 1 assist, and 10 rebounds
  • Jayson Tatum – 13 minutes, 6 points, 3 assists, and 1 rebound

We’ll start with looking at last year’s ASG MVP in Kawhi Leonard, he led his team last year in that untimed 4th quarter as teams really began to play some defense. I think it’s safe to assume that will be his role in this one again as he may assume the captain role with Kevin Durant not available. One guy I’m going to be high on is Joel Embiid, he played 29 minutes last year, but it seems like he has finally started going “F*** You” mode on the league this season. He feels like the leader in the MVP clubhouse after the first half of the season, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him come out here and want to put on a show and prove his worth. One guy that worries me in this starting lineup is Jayson Tatum, with James Harden as a reserve for this team, I think Tatum is the first one off the court as they head into that untimed 4th quarter in favor of Harden. I do think he closes this game for Team Durant and a guy I like getting to off the bench. Last year Harden had 17 minutes, 11 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds. Lastly, I do want to highlight the All-Star game MVP odds because these are some guys you’re going to want to target. If Vegas sees them as a potential MVP winner then those are guys I want to get into my lineup.
