DFS NHL Tiers Choices
Tier 1 – Connor McDavid (EDM) is the best choice here in terms of floor and upside. Anything other than “McJesus” here is a gpp pivot play.
Tier 2 – You can correlate here with Nugent-Hopkins, or start setting up a Winnipeg correlation play with Kyle Connor in Tier 4. But, in terms of the consistency ratings referenced in the above video, Aleksander Barkov might be your safest option in cash games and multiplier formats. Note – The CAR/FLA matchups have hit the sportsbetting overs in 4 of the last 5 games dating back through last season. There is just something about this matchup that leads to goals most times.
Tier 3 – Brady Tkachuk (OTT) edges Nathan Mackinnon (COL) in terms of shots on goal and point production over the last 10 and last 5 games here making for an interesting, and anxiety-riddled, cash game call. Overall, no doubt Mackinnon is the safer play, but sometimes recency matters. And, Tkachuk has produced at least 10 Draftkings points twice as often as Mackinnon over their last 5 NHL games.
Tier 4 – Kyle Connor (WPG) leads the way with over a full point higher projection today when compared to anyone else in this tier. He correlates in a balanced way with the other Jets on tonight’s docket in that he shares even strength ice time with Nikolaj Ehlers and then moves up to the PP1 with T1 candidate Mark Scheifele….allowing you to tie all three together in tourneys, or at least gain access to the others in cash games. Tyson Barrie (EDM) and David Perron (STL) make other solid options tonight.
Tier 5 – Defense rules the tier when it comes to consistent floor plays. Pietrangelo (VGK) and Nurse (EDM) show great in cash games. While my favorite tourney pivot of the night might be Brock Boeser (VAN). Very few will play a Canuck with their recent play, but Boeser offers the highest pure ceiling in the tier at what could be very low ownership.
Tier 6 – Kevin Fiala (MIN) is miles ahead of his NHL counterparts in cash and gpp formats here. Sebastian Aho (CAR) might be another option.
Tier 7 – The San Jose Sharks make an appearance, and either choice (Evander Kane or Logan Couture) make excellent options regarding floor plays. Evander Kane’s ceiling can’t be ignored in any matchup on any slate. Carolina fans might correlate Vincent Trochek into the mix in those Hurricane-heavy lineups.
Tier 8 – Mats Zuccarello surprised me coming out of nowhere like a greenskeeper whacking mums while dreaming of playing in The Masters (Caddyshack reference). He pairs well with Fiala and has the strongest current floor while also leading this wide open tier in average fantasy points per game over both the last 5 and last 10 game samples. His consistency is also impressive. Over the last 5 games, Zuccarello has reached 15 Draftkings points 60% of the time making him a decent cash game option tonight to round out your lineups.
