Kansas Speedway

Both the Xfinity and Truck Series will begin their playoff round of 8 this week at Kansas Speedway. Kansas is my favorite intermediate track as it offers multiple lanes, tire wear, and rewards driver skill. Kansas is a 1.5 mile, tri-oval with progressive banking in the corners. Of all the 1.5 mile tracks it is the one that rewards mechanical grip and drivers abilities the most. Since the series started using stages the number of natural cautions has dropped in half. I expect we see long run speed be vital again this week. This will be the third race here in the last 12 months so we have a lot of recent track history to go off of. We will also use the two homestead races in that time frame for additional reference. The DFS Army Research Station is the best place to access all the statistical information needed for this weekend.

Weekend Preview

For this race, we will look to use an at most 2 dominator setting and I will be running numerous lineups with the mindset of only one dominator. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, we often see one driver smash the laps led total as Austin CIndric did here last race leading 131 of 175 laps. Secondly, we have numerous elite place differential plays that I believe are far more important of plays. If salary allows it then playing two elite guys together will be the way to go of course. I am expecting long green flag runs which will help drivers like Briscoe in the elite tier as well as mid-tier teams who actually buy new sets of tires to use during the race.

Favorite Top Tier Play: Austin Hill

Hill starts 29th for this race and offers tons of place differential ability. I am hoping his poor finishes the last two weeks drops his ownership a little even though it probably won’t. He finished 9th at Darlington and 17th at Vegas after having to battle back from a ton of issues. This should be a top 15 car with top 10 upside. I fully expect him on the optimal with a clean race

Race Preview

We have a fairly straight forward race that will likely see 1 or 2 main dominators. The most important part of this slate will be the numerous driver changes for this event. Colin Garrett will be in the 44 and Ryan Truex in the 40 for Niece. Former series winner Timothy Peters will drive the 52 while Friesen is racing in a dirt event. David Gravel is back in the 24 truck for GMS. Parker Kligerman is back with the 75 team and lastly, we have the most exciting news in series history. Hailie Deegan will be making her Truck Series Debut driving the #17 for DGR. Due to the current lineup deciding rules, all of these drivers will offer place differential upside and will be solid plays for this event.

Favorite Truck Series Play: Hailie Deegan

The clear most amazing play on this slate. Just an absolute beauty of a play. Parker Kligerman starts 35th and will cost $11,000. Deegan starts 34th and costs $7,100. Of course, Kligerman is far superior in terms of current ability and experience level but this is still a good illustration of the value Deegan is. This is a top 15 caliber truck. Will she have an understanding of how these trucks handle? No. Will she be a crash risk because of this? Yes. But she also has the ability to run a safe clean race and finish 18th scoring 42 points. I believe she can be optimal and it will be fun to see how she does.
