Sniper’s $5K Bankroll Challenge – The Beginning

What is the purpose of DFS? To have fun and make some money. Period. End of Story.

Now the question we are all trying to answer, how do we do that? Here at DFS Army, we focus not just on providing player picks but slate strategies and bankroll management. Read our bankroll management Ladder System articles to learn more about what my bankroll management challenge will be based on. DFS Army Ladder System | Ladder System 2.0

The $5K Challenge

Starting September 15, 2020, I will be starting with $5,000 in my account with the goal of doubling up and making $5,000 in profit. This is going to be a grind, it’s not a get rich quick scheme, and I hope you come along for the ride with me.

I prefer niche sports, as you can see in my outline below. The important thing here is a plan and discipline. I would encourage anyone looking to take DFS seriously, to come up with your own set of rules to fit your sport interests. One last thing, I primarily play on DraftKings so that’s what I will be using here, but the same system can be used on FanDuel.

My Outline

Here is a list of the sports / slates I will attack and the percentage of bankroll I will dedicate to each. Discipline will be key and these are the only contests I will be playing, I’m not doing anything else on the side.

  • MMA – 10%
  • NASCAR (Cup Series) – 10%
  • Soccer (4+ Game Slates) – 10%
  • NFL (Main Slate) – 7.5%
  • NFL (Early Slate) – 2.5%
  • NFL (Tiers) – 2.5%
  • Golf – 2.5%
  • NASCAR (XFINITY & Truck Series) – 2.5%
  • Soccer (2-3 Game Slates) – 2.5%
  • Tennis (Majors Only) – 2.5%
  • Esports (LOL) – 1.5%
  • NFL Showdown – 1.5%

Now, following along with the Ladder System, here is how I will break up the above per slate:

  • Head-to-Heads – 40%
  • Double Ups – 20%
  • 3 & 5 Mans – 20%
  • 10 Mans & Quints – 10%
  • Small GPPs – 5%
  • Large GPPs & Satellites – 5%

Editor’s Note – Did you know sportsbetting is taking over?!  MLB, NFL, and NBA have crazy options these days, and the public makes mistakes!!  Our dynamic modeling over at SportsBetArmy adjusts in real time to help identify Vegas inaccuracies you can exploit.  Follow Ryan, Anthony, and Statsational for models and coaching advice that help you build any bankroll for any sport…

Results

Now for the fun stuff, playing and tracking. Approximately twice a week I will post my results and discuss some of the lineup construction that went into the slates. Here we go!

Starting Bankroll (9/15) – $5,000

Slate: League of Legends – Amount Entered $65

Off to a decent start, our eSports coach Advantage had LDLC pulling the upset so I chose to 4-stack the favorite on this two game slate. Using the underdog allows you to get a mid-laner in as captain and though the chalk didn’t win, it also didn’t bust and led to a winning slate. I didn’t get across the line in GPPs but took down my double ups and 3-mans for a nice day. Not all of my head-to-heads got picked up, hence why only $65 was entered instead of $75.

Slate Profit: $53.50

New Bankroll: $5,053.50
Total ROI: 82.31%

eSports Profit: $53.50
eSports ROI: 82.31%

Starting Bankroll (9/16) – $5,053.50

Slate: League of Legends – Amount Entered $70

Another day, another dollar. This one was interesting because I got across the line in a couple small GPPs but not all of my double ups (and some tied). But overall, I got there and had a good day. The key here was that even with a double favorite, you could get one of the two mid-laners in as captain and the lineup pretty much builds itself. I flip junglers and it could be a big day but overall, two straight days of cashing for this article makes me, and my bankroll, feel good.

Slate Profit: $33.75

New Bankroll: $5,087.25
Total ROI: 64.63%

eSports Profit: $87.25
eSports ROI: 64.63%

Starting Bankroll (9/17) – $5,087.25

Slate: NASCAR Trucks – Amount Entered $118

This could have been a smash but Friesen was in a wreck and really tanked this lineup. Still got across the line in 3 mans and a lot of head-to-heads thanks to Tanner Gray and with the volatility of NASCAR and having a wreck in my lineup, I’ll take the small loss and move on.

Slate Profit: -$40.00

New Bankroll: $5,047.25
Total ROI: 18.68%

NASCAR Trucks Profit: -$40.00
NASCAR Trucks ROI: -33.90%

Starting Bankroll (9/17) – $5,047.25

Slate: NFL Showdown – Amount Entered $71

Took a beating on this slate, I was afraid of the Hunt & Chubb timeshare split so I avoided it. Unfortunately, both guys put up a pair of touchdowns and that left me pretty screwed. Wrong captain can be death in showdown and this was clearly a case of that. Salvaged some head-to-heads so it was a total loss but not one for the record books. On to the main slate on Sunday!

Slate Profit: -$49.40

New Bankroll: $4997.85
Total ROI: -0.66%

NFL Showdown Profit: -$49.40
NFL Showdown ROI: -69.58%
