What Is SuperDraft MLB DFS?
Welcome to the DFS Army MLB SuperDraft Overview. SuperDraft is a newer MLB DFS site, and it is very different from DraftKings, FanDuel, Yahoo, FantasyDraft, and other DFS sites based on a salary cap. SuperDraft’s DFS product uses a Multiplier Format, where players are assigned a multiplier value, generally from 1x (for the Mike Trouts and Christian Yelichs of the world) to 2x (unproven/risky GPP type players) and every fraction in between 1 and 2 depending on their algorithm. One of the best parts about SuperDraft is that with no salary cap, you can play whoever you want as long as you pick two pitchers and six hitters. I will go over some of the basics of constructing SuperDraft lineups and how the strategy differs from the salary cap structure.

For every MLB slate, we’ll have SuperDraft projections for you on the website, but like all of our resources, there is no holy grail and you should review the Coaches Notes, Research Station, and Domination Station as well! What is a multiplier?
The Multiplier format provides a new twist on the standard game of DFS. Instead of players getting a salary, they are given a Multiplier ranging from 1x to 2x their production. , except on SuperDraft, every player has a different multiplier, Studs, generally, have a lower multiplier than “non-studs”. This truly changes the game and really adds a new dynamic level when building lineups that you can’t really get on any other site. Here is an example, and I’ll go over the scoring rules later on, but I want to explain the multiplier first because that is fundamental to playing on SuperDraft. Only July 27, 2020, Christian Yelich had a 1x multiplier, the lowest possible, while Aaron Judge’s was 1.5x.
Let’s say Yelich and Judge both got one single, one double, and three RBIs for a total of 15 points. Yelich, would remain at 15 points, while Judge would get 1.5x the 15 points for a total of 22.5 SuperDraft points.
The multiplier is important to consider, but if you have played SuperDraft for other sports, the multiplier is not as important in baseball. Baseball is a completely different animal in DFS because any batter, even in the best matchup profile can record a zero. Ultimately, you can live with a zero in baseball, but if you are able to use the different research tools to determine who is likely to exceed their projection. If a player hits a single home run, they are generally going to outperform that projection. The trick is trying to find the guys with the highest probability of outperforming. And not just home runs, but filling up the stat sheet. I will talk about the rules later, but while home runs do matter, they provide less SD points than FD or DK.

The Rules
Now I will talk about the point structure and how it compares to DraftKings and FanDuel. SuperDraft multiples the Multiplier (the 1x-2x range), by the number of fantasy points to get the total point score for each player. Overall, the batting rules are similar to FanDuel, while the pitching rules are near identical to DraftKings. Like FanDuel, SuperDraft has a multiplier for singles, doubles, triples, and homers with a 3-6-9-12 rubric on FD and 2-4-6-8 on SD.
With pitching, SuperDraft has similar penalties to DraftKings, deducting 2 points for each earned run allowed. SuperDraft also deducts half a point for each hit allowed, walk, and hit batter (DraftKings deducts -0.6).
Strategy
The first thing I like to do is to look at our SuperDraft MLB DFS projections to try to see who stands out, and generally, the players with the highest multipliers will vault to the top of the projections list. Like FanDuel and DraftKings, stacking is a big part of SuperDraft MLB. On this slate, Boston was a very popular stack going up against Baltimore journeyman pitcher Wade LeBlanc so they were definitely in play.
Pitching
Like DraftKings, there are two pitcher spots to fill. My strategy is to pick my favorite value pitcher (in the early goings of this 2020 season, there has been a lot of pitchers in the 2x) range (regardless of multiplier) AND my favorite elite arm. Pitchers so far have been given a short leash in this shortened-season with expanded rosters. One benefit about SuperDraft is the pitchers do not take up any salary-cap space, so if you do not want to pay for premium pitching on FD or DK, you can still get some exposure to an elite arm on SuperDraft. I love the combination of a high-value pitcher with an elite commodity when they are available.
Hitting
My favorite structure for SuperDraft GPPs is 4-1-1, selecting four players from a team that I want to stack and then two all-format viable players (CORE or ALL) on our coaches’ notes. Our coaches work hard to identify the best stacks on the slate and put out daily note sheets. I try to look for stacks where the teams have high multipliers, but at the end of the day, you will do well if your stack produces, regardless of the multiplier.
At the end of the day, good plays are good plays!
