New Hampshire Motor Speedway

The Cup Series is in New Hampshire Motor Speedway this week. NHMS is a flat 1-mile track that runs single file with only one main groove. Due to this NASCAR and the track operators added the PJ1 traction compound down in the upper grooves to try and get some side by side racing through the field last year. It helped a little but didn’t change much.  Track position will be at a premium again this week. However, unlike recent races, really good cars can make a difference and drive their way through the field. New Hampshire loves to bore us with long green flag runs making long-run speed incredibly important. There could be some strategy plays with 2 tires on pit stops or teams pitting off sequence during cautions. This will be what helps mix up the lap leaders throughout the race. We could see some teams using this race as a test session for the Championship race at Phoenix. New Hampshire is the closest track layout-wise to Phoenix.

DraftKings

Most lineups should look to play 2-3 dominators. There is a very good chance of Keselowski dominating early stage much like Kurt Busch did from the pole last year. Other than that the Gibbs cars should be the elite and strong contenders to dominate. Gibbs has won 5 of the last 8 New Hampshire races while also dominating the three they didn’t win. Harvick won the other 3 races while leading a grand total of 61 laps. I am more interested in nailing the 3 most important top tier drivers than anything else in this race for DK. Getting those fast laps and laps led will be key.

Favorite DK Play: Denny Hamlin

Hamlin crushed for me last week as the top DK play and I am going back to him again this week. He led 113 laps here last season and was right on the bumper of Harvick at the end of the race last year. He was the best car overall. Just like he has been for much of 2020. He won here in 2017 and has a total of 9 finishes of 3rd or better here. I think he Hamlin is peaking massively right now. He also starts on the front row which gives him a clear path to early dominator points.

FanDuel

FanDuel is going to be a 2-3 dominator strategy as well. We are going to look at finding the best 3 drivers possible that can lead laps and finish top 5ish. NHMS doesn’t come with a lot of variance, usually… The fast cars should finish up front where they run all race. The biggest difference for FD is the mid-tier drivers starting in the 12th-24th range. Jones, Byron, Johnson, and Dibenedetto all stick out as drivers with top 10 upside. DK will reward the huge place differential upside of Stenhouse and Nemechek more while on FD this group of drivers are likely to be more viable due to a higher finishing position and place diff points being less significant. I think the winning lineup will include one of these 4 drivers.

Favorite FD Play: Christopher Bell

Bell is money on shorter flat tracks. It fits his style perfectly. He starts incredibly deep in the field while also having top 10 finishing upside. The most important part of the equation is that Dibenedetto started 7th and finished 5th here last year driving for the team Bell now drives for. The Gibbs cars are incredible here and the technical alliance that LFR have with Gibbs will definitely be a huge benefit.
