The DFS Turn For Home – DFS Horse Racing on Fanduel 5/2

Welcome to rebel DFS! We are all tired of staring at the same 4 walls and hopefully the alcohol rations haven’t run out. I might need a packie run myself. Today’s installment is the Fanduel DFS Horse Racing slate. We are back for another day of the hottest new DFS contest based off live action. I can’t wait to see what today brings.

Before we get into the slate lets cover a few basics. The slate consists of 12 races at Gulfstream Park. We want to pick as many horses that will finish in the top 4 of each race, although ideally win. A few terms to cover that I might use are:

  • Beyer Speed – Relative speed of the horse for the race, track, and vs other horses.

  • Win – self-explanatory.

  • Place – 2nd

  • Show – 3rd

  • Underneath – finishing in 3rd or 4

  • Bounce – couple different ways this could go but the most common is that it ran too fast and had too hard a race the previous time out that it cannot return anything close to a normal ride this time out. I’ll explain other scenarios when I see them or in slack, if you like.

  • Inside post – posts 1 to 3

  • Middle post – posts 4 to 7

  • Outside post – posts 8 or higher

Anything else will be explained on the fly. I will make recommendations for each race but you are free to deviate as you see fit. The weather looks good and I expect the races to, largely, go off as advertised.

Mister announcer guy, call it out…

Aaaaaaand They’re Off!

Race 1

We’re starting off the day with a nice mid distance 1 mile trip on the turf. Typical winning beyer is about 85. The weather looks to be pretty good and, while I expect to be on the turf, we will have to wait until about 1230 to be sure. I will post my pool for both.

Turf

  • (5) Turn of Events – the best of the bunch by my estimation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • (6) Win d’Oro – seems like this is a turf horse and the odds might be influenced by that last run in the slop. I think the jockey change will benefit him. ⭐⭐⭐

  • (7) East Lex – this horse has some nice early speed but should tail late. I’m not worried about the beyer jump so much as the price. With the running style, I can’t back a high finish here at 6/1. ⭐

  • (10) Hero d’Oro – this will be a popular play with Irad on the mount and a 9/2 price. The pedigree says this is a decent bet to improve on its sole dirt run. There will be high ownership, though. ⭐⭐

Dirt

  • (4) Elusive Rider – a better dirt horse that could be the best in the field if they deem this race inadvisable to run on turf. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • (5) Turn of Events – can turn in a good finish on either surface. ⭐⭐⭐

Race 2

This 6 furlong trip on the dirt should generally benefit early runners horses from an inside post position, but I’m not discounting horses on the outside. Typical winning beyer speed figures are about 86.

  • (6) Nacho Papa – this is the next best horse in the group, IMO. It’s speed isn’t up to the class of the field but I think it’s next tier if it can right the ship . ⭐⭐

  • (7) Luckytobeinamerica – the race favorite happens to be my 2nd favorite. The field drops a little after this horse. ⭐⭐⭐

  • (8) Gran Causeway – my favorite horse in the crowd. Beat the 7 last time out, too. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Race 3

We’re running 1-1/16 miles on the dirt. We also want to see roughly a 93 beyer speed. 5 star

  • (5) Hard Lighting – I think this horse could stretch out just fine. We just haven’t seen it. I think it will still have plenty of speed late. ⭐⭐

  • (4) Storm The Bridge – this is close to a 5 star play for me. The track insiders seem to love this horse and it very well might come in just fine with this field. My reservation is the last race it ran huge and didn’t win. I think it could come down. There isn’t any real threat at this distance on paper though. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • (1) Ajhar – great jockey and the horse has route experience. The speed isn’t there but some horse has to finish 3rd, right? ⭐

Race 4

Race 4 is a 6 furlong trip on the dirt. An 83 beyer has usually been necessary to take it down and the rail is king. This race was kind of a nightmare to try and cap so I won’t be betting it but I have a couple of plays that could hit the board.

  • (1) Teenage Kicks – with not much evident speed, this horse looks to be in the conversation. ⭐⭐⭐

  • (9) She So Naughty – I like the pedigree and the workouts. ⭐⭐⭐

Down The Back Straightaway

Race 5

This race will take us 6 furlongs on the dirt. Typically, we like the speed horses. The average winning beyer is 87. There is an inside bias in this race. The 1 and 2 horses are dropping in class.

  • (1) Dr. Harlan – just off the pace to me.  ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • (4) Finnegan – makes my pool because my favorite scratched. ⭐

  • (5) Valdocco – a first timer but judging by the workouts and the pedigree, should have loads of speed.  ⭐⭐⭐

Race 6

We are still on the dirt going 6 furlongs. Early runners have had success, especially coming from the rail/inside post positions. The race typically has a better than moderate pace, with the winner gaining an 88 beyer.

  • (3) Loriloupies – the horse is moving up in class but I am not worried about it being able to handle the competition. I don’t believe we see it succeed as the favorite but I think we see a pretty good effort. ⭐⭐⭐

  • (5) Customerexperience – dropping in class and has plenty of speed. My favorite horse in the field with a good trainer and a good jockey. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • (6) Awsum Roar – a good balance of early speed and carrying it down the stretch. I think this is a fairly safe choice if not wanting to take a shot in this race. ⭐⭐

Race 7

We’re going 7.5 furlongs on the turf. The speed horses have success. We are looking for a beyer speed of 81. This race has an outside bias.

  • (3) Positive Phil – this horse can run the distance but i don’t think it has enough to finish high. ⭐⭐⭐

  • (6) Lookin At Roses – my 2nd favorite horse. The trainer isn’t great but this horse has a solid base and a great jockey. ⭐⭐⭐

  • (12) Notsosubtle – this is my favorite horse when looking at everything. I dont get why it’s 20/1 and should get bet down a lot by post time. It’s also dropping in class. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Race 8

We are on the dirt and running 1 mile. A 93 beyer or better is what we desire.

  • (2) Overdriver – I love the late speed I just don’t know if it wont leave a lot to do late, not having the early speed to keep up. I like it underneath. ⭐⭐

  • (3) Kid Bourbon – my favorite horse. Excellent late speed. And a history of racing well.  ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • (9) Beau Luminarie – possibly races big at a route and could improve today. I like a high finish with win upside. ⭐⭐⭐

… And We Turn for Home!

Race 9

An 88 beyer is desired for 1-1/16 mile trip around the turf. Late runners have had success lately. The inside has an advantage.

  • (2) Highland Glory – last ran the grade 3 gotham stakes and finished 3rd. These types of races are run against the best of competition and this race should not be a problem for it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • (4) Micheline – drops in class so I expect an improvement and I love the late running style. ⭐⭐⭐

  • (12) Seducer – 3rd time out and with a great jockey. Certainly in the mix. ⭐⭐⭐

Race 10

A blistering beyer of 100 is desired for the 7 furlong trip on the dirt. Speed rules the roost.

  • (5) Red Crescent – the trainer isn’t strong with layoffs over 3 months. ⭐⭐

  • (6) He Hate Me – well primed.  ⭐⭐⭐

  • (3) Network Effect – great jockey and a great trainer. Outside of 1 blip has been stellar. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Race 11

1-1/16 mile on the dirt at a 96 beyer should make for an exciting race. Speed rules here. I don’t like that the best horses are off long layoffs. So i will keep it light here.

  • (6) Summer To Remember – great race fit. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • (7) South Bend – great form.  ⭐⭐⭐

  • (4) Gufo – moving up in class but with a great jockey. I dont think its enough horse though. Underneath play for me. ⭐⭐

Race 12

We are going 1-1/16 miles on the turf. Winning beyer is around 80 and we want the late runners.

  • (10) Hotty Toddy – seems the best of a wild field to me with a great trainer and a great trainer. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • (6) Paint The Corners – my 2nd favorite.  ⭐⭐⭐

  • (4) Brightsideoftheroad – underneath play for me. ⭐⭐

We can talk about other horses but these are my plays for now. I’ll see ya in the chat. Good Luck!
