Counter-Strike GO – Playbook

Counter-Strike GO – Playbook – Basics

This is going to cover everything from how to start DFS in CSGO DFS as well as how you can also research a slate on your own.  I am going to put this in order from newest to CSGO DFS to more advanced. If you feel like you already have a good understanding please skip further along.  Did you know that we have notes for most slates of CSGO? They are normally out around midnight eastern and can be found (HERE). We also have been working on projections to help make selecting the best lineup even easier and those can be found (HERE).

What is CSGO-

CS:GO is short for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.  It is a first-person shooter (FPS) that has been around for over 20 years.  The game has two teams of five face off against each other. One side is Terrorist and their goal is to plant a bomb and destroy a target.  The second side is Counter-Terrorist who are trying to stop the Terrorist from planting, or if the bomb is planted defuse the bomb before it explodes.  After each round players will earn cash that they can use to buy weapons and supplies to aid them in the next round.  Winning gives a set amount of money, losing gives a set amount and then has bonus money added for each loss in a row, and kills give money that varies based on the weapon doing the kill.

The goal of the teams-

The goal for each team is to win the best of 30 rounds.  That means the first team to 16 wins the map. The contests we focus on are best of three (B03) where the winning team will win the match by winning two of three maps.  There is overtime if both teams get 15 rounds and teams play until a confirmed winner regardless of the number of overtimes. There is a process for selecting the maps that will be played and the maps are not predetermined.

Map Selection-

Before each match, the teams will need to select the maps that they will play on.  There are currently seven maps in the competitive rotation that can be played. The teams determine which map they play by going through a ban/select process.  Team A will ban a map, followed by Team B banning a map. Then Team A will select a map to play, followed by Team B selecting the 2nd map. Each team then bans one final map each leaving the seventh map left to play as tie-breaker.

DFS Scoring for Draftkings-

lineups are 6 players including one captain who earns a 1.5x score and lineups cannot select more than 3 players from the same team.  Each player will then score points as follows:

  • Kills another player = 1.5 points
  • Assists a Kill (deals 41 points damage before another player kills) = 1 point
  • Death = -1 point.
  • Entry Kill (1st kill of round) = 0.5 points
  • 1v2 Clutch = 1 point
  • 1v3 Clutch = 2 points
  • 1v4 Clutch = 3 points
  • 1v5 Clutch = 5 points
    • A clutch is when the player is the last one alive and kills x number of players to win the round.
  • Quad Kill (kills 4 players in the same round) = 4 points
  • Ace (kills all 5 players from the other team) = 5 points

Game Length Adjustment. Each player will be rewarded 0.50 points for each round not played in a map and if the game is best of 3 the players will be rewarded 15 points for that match.  The winner will then be rewarded 5 additional points.

How GLA affect us-

Each best of 3 matches has a total possible played round of 90 not counting overtime. If a player on a team were to do exceptionally well but their matches went 16-0,16-0 they would have a hard time keeping up in scoring compared to a team who won 16-14,16-14 and had the same kill/death ratio.  To help protect us from that our players earn bonus points based on their play for any round not played.

Targeting the team that wins 2-0 is still important as with a full 3 player stack you will gain 15 extra points.  The way this is set up however, benefits both sides giving the stud player from the losing 2-0 side some upside as well.
