XFL DFS Fantasy Football Scoring Rules Preview for 2020 on Fanduel and Draftkings

Football is indeed not over. My name is Chris, and I will be the coach here at DFS Army covering all topics XFL related. Last year I focused on the Arena Football League and our members had overwhelming success. I am positive we will see the same results during this XFL season. This XFL season will be a great one for both DFS and entertainment purposes. We are bound to see exciting games throughout the season. The rules set into play will not only make the games more entertaining to watch, but it will also make DFS a lot of fun. In this article, I will be going over important rules to know for DFS Strategy, tips on roster construction, and a small appetizer of what our VIP members can expect on a week to week basis.

Rules that Influence DFS Strategy-

  • No point after touchdown kick-
    • After a touchdown is scored, teams will go for a 1, 2, or 3 point play from the 2, 5, or 10-yard line.
      • If the defensive team causes a turnover and scores, they will get the points attempted by the offense.
  • Double Forward Pass-
    • Yes, you did just read that, it is not a joke.
      • If a player completes a pass to another player while they are still behind the Line of Scrimmage that player can throw the ball to another receiver down the field.
        • We have no idea how much this will be used, but several teams do have players on their rosters that are more than capable of making this “trick” play happen.
  • 25 Second Play Clock-
    • This is not a lot of time and the play clock begins as soon as the ball is spotted. (each game will have a referee dedicated to ball spotting).
  • Kickoffs-
    • The kicking team cannot move until after the ball has been touched by a returner or 3 seconds after the ball hits the ground.
      • However, the kicker kicks the ball from the 25-yard line, the coverage team lines up at the return side 35-yard line and the return team lines up at the 30-yard line.
        • This will not only be safer for the returner, but also increase the chances of taking a kickoff back for a TD.
  • Overtime
    • Shootout style much like NHL or Soccer. This is a best out of 5 rounds.
      • Each team will have a chance to score and each successful score is worth 2 points.
      • If team A gets 3 scores and team B has 0 scores by the end of round 3 overtime is over.
      • If the teams are tied after 5 rounds, the first team to win a round wins the game.

Roster Construction

Draftkings-

On Draftkings we have to fill 7 positions. Those positions are QB, RB, 2 WR/TE, 2 Flex, and a defense. The scoring will be the exact same as NFL scoring. So when creating our lineups, we want to be mindful of the point per reception format that is in place on this site. The 300-yard bonus for QBs and 100-yard bonus for the skill position players are a big factor as well. These are just a few of the many important scoring rules that are in place that you will want to make sure that you take full advantage of when creating your lineups. Our VIP members will have full access to my cheat sheet for each week during the XFL season. I will break down team depth charts and help our members give themselves the best possible chance of succeeding.

Fanduel-

The roster construction is almost exactly the same here as on DK. The only difference is that there are only 6 spots to fill as they are not having a roster spot for defense. Now during NFL season, we prefer to play as many running backs as possible. However, that will not be the case here in the XFL. Given the rules of the league, teams are going to be throwing the ball anywhere between 35-70 times per game. This makes up the .5 point per reception difference for the reason why we prefer RBs.

Week 1 Appetizer

In my cheat sheets, our VIP members will notice that I will be color-coding certain players each week. I will have players listed as “core”. This tells our members that I am personally going to have a significant amount of that player in all of my lineups that I make for that slate. This would be a player(s) that I am extremely confident in and that I am building most of my lineups around. Players marked yellow lets our members know of a possible injury concern. This helps raise awareness of the players’ availability and will make us think of possible pivots to make. Last but certainly not least, is my “edge” play(s). Edge players are simply players who I believe will be under-owned by the field.

This week, for example, Eli Rogers will be a core player on Fanduel. He is projecting to be the Defenders starting slot WR. At only $13, he is underpriced for what his role should be in this offense. My personal favorite team to win it all this year is the DC Defenders. They have weapons all over the field as well as up and down their depth chart. They are set up for success this season. Rashad Ross, who should be their WR1 is still learning the offense. So with Rogers’s pricing and the expected workload he should be one of the best plays week one.
