DAYTONA

As always, the NASCAR season starts at the legendary Daytona International Speedway. When going to Daytona the first thing on my mind is avoiding the wrecks. Racing at Daytona involves running in tight packs with 20-30 drivers right on top of each other. This makes for an exciting but unpredictable race. As for the DFS slates, you will look to drivers who can avoid the big wrecks and get as many drivers to the finish as possible. With a low number of laps and fast laps spread throughout the field, dominators are not overly important. At most, you will consider only one driver for lineups who can dominate. Place differential is vital and usually comes with drivers who can avoid the big wrecks that happen at Daytona.

Cheat Sheets

For the 2020 NASCAR season the DFS Army will now offer post qualifying cheat sheets for both the Xfinity & Truck Series. These cheat sheets will pinpoint core plays, gpp main plays, cash plays & fades with drivers specific notes. Cheats Sheets are only available with a DFS Army VIP memberships!

Race Preview

The absolute biggest thing for these SuperSpeedway races is avoid the chaos. Last year’s February Daytona race was a ridiculously tame race with almost no carnage. This is not normal and really shouldn’t be expected to happen again. When one thing goes wrong it usually ends in a massive wreck involving multiple cars. Over the previous 5 Daytona Xfinity races excluding February, we saw DNF (Did Not Finish) totals of 20, 14, 13, 18 and, 18. Due to high DNF total there have been 27 drivers who started 25th or worse but finish in the top 15 over the course of those 5 races. Those drivers who have great position differential will be the key to a winning lineup. We do see race dominators here at Daytona but avoiding big wrecks and finishing up front can be a challenge for them. It is good to get exposure with possible doms as we see have seen a race dominator win 50% of the time the last 8 races.

There are 40 cars on the entry list but only 36 drivers will qualify for the race. Four drivers will not qualify for the race. Make sure you do not have any of these drivers in your lineups!!

Race Preview

The Truck Series has a very similar track record as the Xfinity Series here at Daytona. Normally we see 12 DNF’s per race with a couple of trucks continuing with damage from the big wrecks. Last year however was a ridiculous mess with 23 DNF’s. The Trucks are a little more unstable than the Xfinity Series cars and they also punch a larger hole in the air causing for a strong draft for the Truck behind. This results in a faster closing rate thus leading to many accidents. Roughly 30% of these races are ran under caution. Doms are still in play but lead changes are more frequent in the Truck Series. Over the last four races at Daytona we have seen 76 lead changes compared to 60 for the Xfinity Series. If playing a dominator you will only need one. Just like the Xfinity race, the key to a winning DFS lineup will be finding six drivers who can stay out of trouble.

There are 41 Trucks on the entry list but only 32 drivers will qualify for the race. Nine drivers will not qualify for the race. Make sure you do not have any of these drivers in your lineups!!
