Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA slate.

So what is a Free Square exactly? In DFS we define the Free Square as a player to build your lineups around. Generally, this player represents the closest we can find to a sure thing for the slate.

This column is all about trying to identify the free square for a particular slate. Often times, this will be a low-cost player who is thrust into a starting role and sure to make or exceed value. The type of player that allows us to load up the rest of our lineup with high salary studs. Occasionally it will be a high priced stud in a great spot. Each slate we will take a look at three or four players which represent great value on the day’s slate of games and choose the one which best represents the top value and floor play to earn the title of the slates Free Square

Eric Paschall $3,700 / $3,500

The Warriors will be without D’Angelo Russell, Kevon Looney and Draymond Green tonight. Eric Pachall is dead minimum on Fanduel at just $3,500 and priced at only $3,700 on Draftkings tonight. Earlier this season he was priced in the high 5k and low 6k range and he was dropping around 30 fantasy points per game for the tanking Warriors. This feels like a spot where he can easily put up 8 or 9x his value at such a cheap price.

Other Warriors

Alec Burks $6,500 on Draftkings and $6,000 on Fanduel has been acting as the team’s point guard recently with D’Angelo Russel out. He’ has scored 40+ in 2 of hs last 3 games and the Warriors get a solid matchup tonight against the Kings. Burks should run the offense again tonight with everyone missing from the Warriors and he’s simply priced too cheap for that kind of role.

Damion Lee, Glenn Robinson, Willie Cauley Stein, Marquise Chriss and Ky Bowman are all fully in play here as the Warriors will have a tight rotation of backups tonight vs the Kings. I know I’ve listed nearly every player on the roster tonight, but, the spot they are in is very solid with such a tight rotation. I would target them in the order I’ve listed them here in your lineups tonight.

The NBA Research Station is my #1 source for research every single day and is one of the VIP Only tools our members have access to daily. The info in the NBA ReSearch Station includes today’s 📊 DFS Army Projection, Adjusted DVP matchups and much more. This tool will cut your daily research time in half.

Marcus Smart $5,200 / $4,900

With Kemba Walker out, Marcus Smart will start again at point guard tonight. The matchup vs the Wizards is as good as it gets and the sub 5k price on Fanduel is simply ridiculous. Smart had a rough game last game, only scoring 16.5 fantasy points in 32 minutes but we can’t worry too much about that. When a prime spot presents itself, we have to attack it every time and today is no exception. Smart will be playing 30+ against one of the leagues worst Defenses and he’s not priced properly for that role.

Other Celtics

When a high usage player like Kemba Walker is off the floor, more than 1 player on the team is going to benefit. That is exactly the situation we have here for Marcus Smart and the rest of the Celtics. While Smart is the clear, direct replacement for Walker, the other players on the team get significant bumps as well. Gordon Hayward, Jason Tatum, and Jaylen Brown are all mid-range plays that can reach 40+ fantasy points in this game tonight. The Wizards have a 114 Defensive Efficiency Rating on the Season and they play at a 106 pace. That is not a good combination to have and I play on being heavily exposed to the Celtics tonight.

Other spots to target

Wizards Jordan McCrae will get a big bump in usage if Bradley Beal is out today. Over the last few games with Beal off the floor, McCrae has a 30% usage rate and is averaging around 45 fantasy points per 36 minutes.

Pacers Aaron Holiday without Malcolm Brogdon should be in consideration as a solid mid-range play. He’s priced up to 5.8k on DK and 5.6k on FD so he’s no longer a lock and load value play but, he’s been very solid starting for Brogdon. In his last 6 games he’s only scored less than 27.5 fantasy points 1 time and he’s got a juicy matchup vs the Hornets who have a 110 Defensive Efficiency Rating on the year.
