Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In DFS we define the Free Square as a player to build your lineups around. Generally, this player represents the closest we can find to a sure thing for the slate.
This column is all about trying to identify the free square for a particular slate. Often times, this will be a low-cost player who is thrust into a starting role and sure to make or exceed value. The type of player that allows us to load up the rest of our lineup with high salary studs. Occasionally it will be a high priced stud in a great spot. Each slate we will take a look at three or four players which represent great value on the day’s slate of games and choose the one which best represents the top value and floor play to earn the title of the slates Free Square
My NBA Free Squares for Today November 7th
Today we get a small 4 game Thursday slate. Not a ton of injury news today so hopefully the chalk won’t be as obvious as it’s been the last few days. Currently the highest implied team totals belong to the Clippers (117), the Celtics (112.25) and the Blazers (111.5). While the three lowest totals belong to the Thunder (103.75), the Hornets (105.25) and the Spurs (108.25).

🎃 Rodney Hood $3,800 / $4,400
Hood has looked great at times this year, and on this small 4 game slate value is a little tough to come by early in the day. There isn’t much injury news today so nobody is popping a clear cut “top value” right now. That being said, Hood is only priced at $3,800 on DK and he’s going to play 30+ minutes in the game with the highest total on the slate. I think he’s a fine salary saver on this slate to help you spend up for an extra stud.
🎃 Kawhi Leonard $9,600 / $10,800
Kawhi is the guy you wanna spend up on today in a nice matchup against the Blazers. This small 4 game slate does not have many places for us to pay up for studs, so we could use a more balanced approach to our lineup construction today. Kawhi is the clear top play on the slate in a game with a 230 total, which is the highest on the slate. The Blazers have a 109.2 Defensive rating this season, which is 2nd worst on the slate and this is a pace up game for the Clippers. Kawhi is rested and should be able to put up a big score tonight.

🎃 Celtics
Enes Kanter is currently questionable so, if he ends up missing this game we can get some Daniel Theis and Robert Wiliams value if we need it. Theis is a better play on Fanduel, only $4,900 vs his Draftkings price of $5,600 while Robert Williams is near min price on both sites.
🎃 Kemba Walker $9,300 / $9,500
REVENGE!!! Kemba returns home to Charlotte tonight as the Celtics visit the Hornets. While I don’t think there is any real “bad blood” between Kemba and Hornets organization, I know he’s going to want to put on a show in front of the fans that supported him for so much of his career. The Hornets have a 111.7 defensive rating, which is the worst on the slate so the Celtics should have their way with them. The Celtics are expected to be at full strength, as Jaylen Brown is returning the lineup tonight but that doesn’t deter me from heavy Kemba exposure here tonight.
