Zadelstein’s Friday Night College Football Breakdown (September 20)

QB

Kedon Slovis (FD $9,200/DK $7,000)

Slovis has had to put the team on his back and throw the ball around 33 times a game and he has done a really good job.  He goes up against a very good Utah defense but this is their first game against a Power 5 team.  I think Slovis is going to have to throw the ball to keep his team in the game and is priced right this week.  I lean to him in cash because I do not think this game gets to be a high scoring shootout but I think he is viable in all formats.

Tyler Huntley (FD $9,700/DK $7,200)

Huntley is a dual-threat that can beat teams in a multitude of ways.  He has not had to run the ball too much this year, with Utah facing subpar competition, but last year he ran the ball double-digit times in 6 of his 9 games.  He goes up against a USC team that gave up 299 passing yards and a rushing TD to BYU’s QB last week.  Huntley is the most expensive QB on this slate but deservedly so.

Hank Bachmeier (FD $9,400/DK $6,900)

Bachmeier has had a pretty good year as a freshman, averaging over 35 passes and over 300 yards a game.  He did, however, get taken out last week early in the second half for Chase Cord who showed he is very capable.  Coach Harsin said there is not a QB controversy but it is worth noting that Bachmeier could get pulled if the game gets ugly.  That being said, he goes up against an Air Force team fresh off of a win against Colorado.  Air Force held Colorado to 220 yards passing on 43 attempts.  This game is expected to be a 1 score game which could be the best thing for Bachmeier’s DFS value.

RB

Zack Moss (FD $10,000/DK $7,600)

Moss is the stud of the slate, averaging 6.5 yards per carry and having 4 TDs on the year.  He will be needed more in this game than in the last 2 cupcakes and that should greatly help his DFS value.  Moss took 60% of the teams rushes in week 1 in a competitive game against BYU and should see similar numbers this week.  USC is giving up 4 yards a carry which bodes well for Moss.

Vavae Malepeai (FD $9,600/DK $6,400)

Malepeai has become a workhorse back since JT Daniels got injured in week 1.  In a tight game against BYU last week, he had 23 carries and 3 receptions for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Malepeai is going to be heavily used against this very stout Utah rush defense but those carries will add up.  I like him a lot more on DK due to his value but he is viable in any contest.

Kadin Remsberg (FD $9,100/DK $5,800)

Remsberg is the starting running back for a triple-option Air Force team that will get a ton of opportunities to run the ball.  He had 23 carries for 146 yards and a touchdown against Colorado and will be heavily leaned upon again.  Boise State has given up over 4 yards a run and a triple-option attack is tough on any team.  One wrong read and the RB could take it for a long run to the house.

Congrats to DFS Army VIP Jay69killa on a great football Saturday!  It just goes to show that it isn’t all about the huge wins but grinding it out and making a great ROI!  That’s a great lineup and a great score!

WR

Michael Pittman Jr. (FD $8,600/DK $5,600)

In the 2 weeks since Slovis has taken over as starting QB, Pittman has the most targets with 18 that he has turned into 15 receptions for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He is at a great price on both sites even going up against a good Utah defense.  If he can get 8-10 targets he could be one of the better values on the slate.

Khalil Shakir (FD $8,000/$6,700)

Shakir leads Boise State in targets, receptions and yards through 3 games at 25/17/237.  He has become Bachmeier’s most trusted receiver and he looks that way a lot.  He should see plenty of targets as Boise has been throwing the ball over 30 times a game, and despite Air Force having a good year against the pass so far, they did give up 8 receptions for 124 yards and a TD to Laviska Shenault last week showing they are capable of giving up big numbers to WRs.

Cee Jay Powell (FD $7,200/FD $3,800)

Powell is purely a speculative GPP play.  He is listed as a backup slot receiver to Griffin Hebert but has as many or more targets in each game, 20 total.  He has 13 receptions for 145 yards on the year including 6 for 56 against Texas.  Against a Florida International team that is giving up almost 30 fantasy points to opposing WRs (total) a game, I love the value in Powell.
