NFL Top Onslaught Stacks for Fanduel and Draftkings Week 3

Welcome to the NFL TOP ONSLAUGHT STACKS article here at DFS Army. Each week I will dive into a few teams that I think will be some of the best stacks of the week. My goal here will be to narrow down the list of teams I feel we can use and gain an edge with vs the field in Large Field Tournaments, but lesser versions of these stacks can easily be used in single entry, league play, and even hybridized lineups in head-to-head competition. My hope is that we can have the same success here with the NFL TOP STACKS article that we had all season in MLB with the MLB TOP STACKS article.

If you have any questions hit me up in the DFS Army VIP chat shoot me a DM @CeeGee and we can chat one-on-one about your process.  If you prefer, I’m also easy to find on Twitter.

I appreciate you taking time out of your day to check out the article 🤟❤💯

What Is an “Onslaught Stack?”

If you have read our tournament strategy pieces this year (both Shark Autopsy and Showdown Breakdown), you are aware we have reverse-engineered the Milly Maker and many of the single-game Showdowns going back several years in search of winning trends.   A few interesting tidbits stood out.

  • Game Stacking Mattered – any combination of a QB with his same team, then coupled with a skill player on the opposing team
  • Casual Players Don’t Stack Enough – Most of us know about stacking a QB/WR combo, but people still aren’t doing it frequently enough across all entries of tournament play.  We still have a leveraged edge by using even a small stack of some sort.
  • Secondary Stacks Yield Even Better Finishes – The common combo of QB/WR + opposing WR can be coupled with a completely different game stack, or secondary stack, using perhaps the second game’s RB on the favored team + WR on the underdog.  Secondary stacks serve to differentiate your lineup further while still focusing on correlation and leveraging fantasy production.

When it comes to stacking your lineups, we also found a lot of room to exploit the competition by going overboard.  We don’t need to simply use a QB/WR combo + an opposing WR.  We can ramp it up more!  QB/WR/TE + opposing WR/WR is an example of a 3+2 “onslaught stack.”  We can run 4+2, 2+2, and even 3+1…..literally anything that has more than 3 total players from a game can be called an “onslaught stack.”  And, these onslaughts are proving to capitalize on extreme leverage.  The casual, and even intermediate player just doesn’t go that overboard in games that will possibly shoot out on both sides.  THIS IS OUR EDGE!!!  Where people back off, we step on the gas!

Caveat – Now, onslaughts still don’t pan out with great frequency.  You are simply taking advantage of the times they do pan out.  You have the uniqueness and access to the points that drive you well into the top 0.1% of the payouts (where the money starts to happen).  The goal is not to finish with a 2x or 3x multiplier to our money.  The goal is to finish with 20x or 100x or more.  Onslaughts definitely do that for you.  But, they still shouldn’t be 50% of what you do in your MME or multi-entering structures.  Keep it toned down some.  But, plan to use them at least some when opportunity arises.

In the chart above I have eliminated all players with a Protected Market Share of Team Targets under 10%. As a rule of thumb, these will be the only receivers included in my Stack Groups in the NFL Domination Station (more on that at a later date).

I’m still working on a “ranking” system for the TOP ONSLAUGHT STACKS chart, but, for now we’ll just sort it by Projection. Eventually, I’ll develop a ranking of some kind that factors in overall Ownership% and Salary of the stack as well as Projection.

Now that we have a solid Macro view of the slate, let’s dive into a couple teams and discuss our onslaught players.

Cowboys and Patriots

Both the Cowboys and Patriots rank in the Top 5 for projection this week, but I don’t think reallly TOP STACK material this week. There are severe blowout risk in each matchup. The Cowboys take on the Dolphins and should put that game away fairly early while the Patriots take on the Jets and their 3rd string QB so that shouldn’t be much of a contest either. Remember the idea of stacks, is that we want the game to be competitive, so both teams are forced to go back and forth with each other and we rack up fantasy points along the way.

If you think the Cowboys are going to drop 35 or even 59 on the Dolphins as the Ravens did in Week 1, then, by all means, stack them up. Dak Prescott, Zeke Elliot, Amare Cooper and Randall Cobb should all do some damage if the Cowboys score 30+ in this one. Michael Gallop leads the team with a 46% target market share but he’s dealing with some injuries this week so that could open things up for Cobb to get some more looks. If the Dolphins can somehow stay close, maybe the Cowboys stack can pay off. That’s a big maybe though, given how these two teams have played in the first two weeks.

If you’re wanting to stack the Patriots despite the large spread, your targets should be Brady, Brown, Edleman, Gordon. Overall though the Patriots are really tough team to stack up as they just spread the ball around to everyone fairly equally.

Editor’s Note – Instead of thinking true onslaught here with both sides, we might consider a 3+0 type stack of these games without “running it back.”  We still gain access to multiple skill players and the QB on high implied total teams.  But, we aren’t as worried about that extra player from the other side in such low implied totals for the underdogs.

NFL Top Stacks

LESSSSSSSSS  GOOOOOOOOOOO!!🤟❤💯

Chiefs vs Ravens

This will likely be a theme all year with the Chiefs being a ranked as a top stack and generally, the team facing them should have a few “bring back” options as well. This week the Chiefs welcome the Ravens to Arrowhead for what should be a fantastic game. The Ravens have a solid defense, but, we all saw what the Chiefs did to the Jaguars defense in Week 1. This team is fully matchup-proof in with Mahomes leading the way. Sammy Watkins and Travis Kelce make up about 46% of the Chiefs projected target market share and 54% of their projected Receiving TD market share. On the season Watkins has a 70% target market share overall, and Kelce has a 50% market share. — NOTE — Marketshare is simply a Players Total Targets / Total Team Targets – So locking these two into your stack with Mahomes gives you access to nearly 1/2 of the team’s targets and touchdowns through the air. After Kelce and Watkins, we have Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson who take up about 27% of the projected target share. I would probably lean Hardman over Robinson this week in tourneys, simply because of Robinson’s monster game last week, he will likely be higher owned between the two of them.

On the Ravens side of the ball they really only have 2 main pass catchers so far this season. WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has a 72% target market share while TE Mark Andrews has a 68% target market share this season.  For fantasy purposes, we love focused offenses.

Review and Stack Options

This will likely be a popular stack combination this week, as we get two high profile Quarterbacks facing off. These stacks are expensive, so you’ll have to get creative with the rest of your lineup is you want to go this route. That being said, if you decide to roll with a KC/BAL game stack you should look to differentiate your lineup somewhere else by using lower projected owned Running backs and Defenses from other games.

Mahomes + Kelce + Watkins + Hardman/Robinson – bring back – with Brown + Andrews

Jackson + Brown + Andrews – bring back – with  Kelce + Watkins + Hardman/Robinson

Lets Talk about Stacks Baby!!!

NFL Top Stacks

My example above was a very vague example of what we’re looking to accomplish when we’re building our stacks, so, I would highly suggest you check out Kevin’s full Training Video on how to stack and some of the methodology behind it. >> LET’S TALK ABOUT STACKS BABY! <<

Bills vs Bengals

I feel like this game is going overlooked this week as I currently have the Bills as my 11th highest owned stack and the Bengals all the way down at 23rd highest owned. On the Bills side of the ball, everything has been running through 3 main pieces in QB Josh Allen, WR John Brown and WR Cole Beasley. Brown owns a 51% target market share this year while Beasley has a 37% share. Beasley has far less upside than Brown but at his price, it’s hard for him NOT to pay off on a full PPR site like Draftkings most weeks. The Bills have a fairly even 53/47 pass/run ratio this year but I like this matchup against the Bengals who just got torched by Jimmy G and the 49’ers last week.

For the Bengals, they enter this game with a very one-sided 74/26 pass/run ratio, largely due to the fact that they’ve been chasing from behind in both Week 1 and Week 2. Andy Dalton has been putting up solid numbers and focusing most of his targets on his top 2 receivers in Tyler Boyd and John Ross. On the year Boyd has a 43% target market share while Ross comes in at 41%. Joe Mixon and Gio Bernard will get a handful of looks as well, but, the majority of this offense has been running through Boyd and Ross.

Review and Stack Options

My first inclination here is to see if I can pair any of these Bills / Bengals players with my KC/BAL stacks above. I’m not sure I’ll have the salary to get them all but that’s the direction I would look to go and see if I can make it work. As I said above, the KC/BAL stack will be high owned so we need some low owned cheaper options to fill it out.

Allen + Brown + Beasley – bring back – with Boyd + Ross

Dalton + Boyd + Ross – bring back – with Brown + Beasley

  • NOTE – if you want some more upside, try to use Zay Jones over Cole Beasley in large field tourneys. Jones only has 7 targets total on the season but he’s got speed to burn and great break a slate wide open if he and Allen can connect on a few deep bombs (we saw this happen a few times last year)

That’s all I’ve got for today 🤟❤💯
