Race Notes

Race number two of the Xfinity Series playoffs will be at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Roval track layout is back again with some updating. The Roval is a road course race run at Charlotte that utilizes both the standard oval track as well as the infield road course. After the success of last year’s race it was solidified that the Roval would stay. This led to the track investing money and creating a much improved chicane on the backstretch. This will definitely be a major change and adjustment over last year. Another big change is the race length. Last year the stages were 15-15-25 for a total of 55 laps. The new lengths will be 20-20-27 for a total of 67 laps. Last years race was rather tame with only one caution due to on track accident. If this is the case again long run speed will be much more important with the extra stage length.

As always the DFS Army Research Station will be available and the Domination Station will be available AFTER starting lineups are set.

Lineup Building

Dominator / Top Tier

Last year Chase Briscoe came out of nowhere and was the lone dominator leading 33 of 55 laps. With the increase in total laps we could see a two dominator race this year but this will only happen with a perfect split. At 67 laps this is one of the shortest races of the year with limited laps available to be led but also even less fast laps available. Place differential and overall finishing position will be every bit as important. There are three really obvious dominator and race win contenders this week. Austin Cindric, Christopher Bell and AJ Allmendinger have been the top drivers on the road courses so far this year and are best set up to do well again.

Mid Tier/Low Tier/Punts

There are a few driver situations to pay attention to this week in this area. Ryan Truex in the #8 and Harrison Burton in the #18 will be in elite cars with top 10 ability. In the lower tier there are lots of changes this week. Lawson Aschenbach is in the #0 while Tommy Joe Martins is in the #61 and Timmy Hill is in the #66. JJ Yeley returns in the #78 this week for BJ McLeod. Will Rodgers will be driving the #86 for Brandon Brown while Brown will race in the #68 which is the 2nd team car. Alex Labbe will be back in the #90 this week as well. This group of drivers will be the crucial area this week. Putting together the optimal lineup will very likely include choosing from this group. Using this years previous road course races will be a great tool this week to decipher who the best plays will be.

I will also answer any questions you may have in the VIP Slack!
