Race Info

This week the Truck Series heads to Michigan International Speedway. Michigan will serve as the penultimate race before the start of the Playoffs. Michigan is a big, spacious 2 mile track that lends itself to high speeds and drafting for the Trucks. The elite teams will start to separate themselves from the rest of the field after a few laps. Long run speed is important with drivers slowly falling off the leaders draft the longer into the run it goes. Last years race saw a final run of 18 laps with the top four breaking away from the rest of the pack. Moffitt was able to time the draft perfectly and beat Johnny Sauter back to the line for the win by a nose. Due to how bad the CUp Series race was earlier this year NASCAR has decided to add the PJ1 traction compound to promote better racing. It is unclear how this will affect the Truck Series if at all. As always our VIP Research Station is the best place to get all the practice times and averages, past history at this track, race projections as well as their 2019 race stats. Tons of info to be gathered for helping build your lineups.

Check out our VIP article called The Inside Line: Truck Series featuring Driver/Team notes, news, as well as stats and my own personal viewpoints for every driver involved in the Truck Series race. This article will be available to DFS Army VIP members for every Truck race.

Lineup Building

Dominator

For this week we will look to play One or Two dominators. The definition of a dominator, which varies at times, comes into play a but here. For the most part I look at a dominator who leads 30-40%+ of the total laps and also grabs a bunch of fast laps. At Michigan we generally see a few drivers lead double digit laps. The main dominator here tends to grab 40-50 laps led. Then you see what I would consider as “studs” not dominators who lead 10-25 laps. With the draft being in play especially at the front we will see the fast laps spread around quite a bit. This will limit how much any one driver can truly rack up the dom points. For me the best strategy will be to attack multiple drivers who can contend for the win and top 5s. This should allow you to get coverage of as many fast laps and laps led as possible.

The plays

After his performance at Pocono Ross Chastain is absolutely someone to watch. The GMS trucks of Creed, Moffitt and affiliated truck Friesen should have plenty of speed as well. Of course the Thorsport and KBM trucks are always threats to lead laps and run for the win. Lots of potentially good plays and will all depend on which teams and drivers hit the setup and can maintain the long run speed and keep track position up front.

Mid Tier

Lots of good potential between $9,000-$8,000 this week. Drivers like Ankrum, Eckes, Hill and Creed will all posses top 5 upside. Drivers Dippel and Alfredo have been solid all year and offer good plays as well. $7,800-$7,000 is a bit of a scary group that contains the likes of Boyd, Self, and Dean who are very up and down. Jen Jo Cobb comes in at $7,500 which is a ridiculous price. There are decent plays here but also some risky ones as well as drivers who will struggle to pay off at their price.

Low Tier/Punts

Couple of decent plays below $7,000 this week. As always it will be important to avoid any start and park teams and limit exposure to drivers like Benning who are solely dependent on drivers failing to finish. That being said there have been many DNFs in past Michigan races. These DNFs range from start and parks to mechanical failures as well as a handful of crashes. The Truck Series as a whole this year has been a bit accident prone which will only add to the potential upside of drivers in this area.
