Donuts to Dollars
The GPP/MME playbook is more or less a foundation to build upon for your Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) tournament strategy and mass-multi entry (MME) adventures. The following approach is how I am going to MME the main slate on FanDuel and DraftKings. MLB DFS Pitching Pool Strategy for MME (tiny pool today!)
Mike Clevinger has given up 1 ER or less in 3 straight starts and is clearly rounding into form. With massive strikeout potential against the Blue Jays and an affordable price tag on FanDuel, he’s my favorite option on the entire slate for all formats over there. On DraftKings, he’s certainly in play for MME, however, for Single Entry lineups, I prefer to pay up another $400 to the next pitcher.
Gerrit Cole is in play on both sites. The beautiful part about the teams we are targeting in Tier 1 is that they are so cheap to stack that we have plenty of money to grab the elite arms. While Cole has been a bit more volatile over the last month or so he still has an immense ceiling against a team full of right-handed hitters that can go ice cold in a hurry.
Chase Anderson continues to provide decent value at he’s cheap enough where I think we could get 6 IP, and 5K with a victory. Expect volatile production, of course, but he’s the nice mid-tier arm I like to target when they are pitching well.
Daniel Ponce de Leon is just way too cheap on FanDuel ONLY to not be targeted. He has 25 Ks in his last 20 IP and has solid upside at this price tag. If he is able to make it to 6 IP and get the quality start and victory then I think he’s the guy that will be in most GPP winning lineups on FanDuel tonight. That’s a big ask but for tournaments, I love this mid-tier priced arm.
Ivan Nova is in play on DraftKings due to his price tag and the fact that he has scored 9.7 or more DK points in 6 out of his last 10 games. Can he do it again today? I am not sure. But against the Marlins I think he has a solid chance to score 14-20 points and deliver one of his better performances on the season.
Tier 1 MLB Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings
These are the teams I want to stack with my highest exposure. Whether you decide to use the controlled stacks (example below) or the randomized stack exposure (as I do, the example provided), I’ll have my highest percentage on the Tier 1 teams). Daily fantasy sports are not just about being contrarian. A key strategy is to also have contrarian exposure to your plays.
Washington Nationals 40-60%
They get to tee off on Peter Lambert who has given up 24 ER and 8 HR in his last 22 IP. He has almost a 2.0 WHIP in his last 5 starts, too. With the Nationals having the opportunity to get on base at will and steal bases, I think the top of the order will have a chance at not only hitting home runs but manufacturing plenty of runs and stolen bases with their speed. I love this team today and if it is hot and humid at home in D.C. then even better!
St. Louis Cardinals 40-60%
They are very cheap to stack, similar to the Nationals but without the high-end priced options. Literally, 1-9 will be dirt cheap for the upside that they have. This offense has the propensity to fall flat on its face sometimes which usually keeps their team stack exposure a bit lower than it should be. I love the guys I put into my video (linked below) today, too. So if you use the controlled stacking look to roll with them first. Otherwise, slap a 40-60% exposure on the team using the randomized stack and let’s hope for some magic against a guy that has given up 8 HR and 22 ER in his last 23.2 IP.
Tier 2 MLB Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings
These are the teams I am generally using to hedge my pitcher investment and/or don’t have a clear read on what might happen but understand extreme outcomes are possible. My strategy is to have the volatile stacks paired with the Tier 1 stacks that have a higher success rate.
Houston Astros 30-50%
I think the Tier 1 options are pretty solid today in regards to having a solid floor, so my Tier 2 options are going to be purely looking at leveraging pitching exposure from the field and scoring ceiling. While the Astros don’t leverage the pitching field they do have a massive scoring ceiling. Some of these left-handed bats are really heating up and George Springer and Jose Altuve are starting to look amazing 1-2 again.
Arizona Diamondbacks 20-40%
They have plenty of upside in this spot today and offer up the significant potential at a moderate price range across the board. While they are volatile to target, they should be in solid hitting environment and a few of their left-handed hitters are in great splits spots today.
Oakland Athletics 10-20% | New York Yankees 10-20% | Boston Red Sox 10-20% | Toronto Blue Jays
I am purely hoping to catch lightning in a bottle here with these offenses. The Red Sox and Yankees have immense potential on any given slate while the Athletics and Blue Jays offer up a leverage stack against their respective opposing pitchers.

This is my personal strategy to use the DFS Army Domination Station optimizer for MLB MME
-
Cut all pitchers out of my player pool that I know I 100% DO NOT WANT
- Add in all the pitchers I am okay with the optimizer using my playbook and uncheck all the other pitchers.
-
Identify all teams I want to stack
- If using controlled stacks then create my player pool of hitters for MME
- If using the randomized stacks (which I do) then I begin to create percentages for all my favorite teams to target adding up to 160-180%
- Leave 20-40% stack exposure to allow the optimizer to fill in some random optimized stacks according to your pitcher pool to have some unbiased lineups
-
Prepare my 150 entry settings
- 3 uniques
- tournament mode
- DFS Army points
- Make sure allow opposing pitchers is unchecked and confirmed players only is checked.
- Maximum exposure cap of 60% is how I usually roll with it. The higher the exposure cap the more “all-in” you will be on a player or two. Sometimes when I feel great about my pitching pool or stacking tiers I will run it at 80-100%.
- Set legacy random stack setting to 4-3 for FanDuel and 5-2 for DraftKings and CHECK “PRIORITIZE LINEUPS”
- Run the optimizer
- Look at the batters used in the stacks. Did I create 100 Houston lineups and only get 5 George Springers? Okay, use the like/love/adore buttons or boost his projection until I get more of him. Did I get 50 out of 50 Boston stacks with Jackie Bradley and no J.D. Martinez? Boost Martinez and potentially use the dislike buttons on Bradley until he’s a bit lower and Martinez is involved.
- You have to tinker a bit to get the higher upside guys sometimes ^^^
- Re-run the optimizer until you get what you’re looking for
- Go watch Netflix until the games are over and your daily fantasy sports entries are final
- Make a plate of chips and salsa, too
I slapped this video together during the kiddos’ nap time to show you the ease of use with the DFS Army optimizer. I hope it helps seeing it on video in conjunction with the article
