7 Creative Draft Order Ideas For Your Season Long Fantasy Football League

Well, it’s that time of year again.  Fantasy Football draft season, and I know I’m excited.  But, I’m sick and tired of drawing names out of a hat or using last year’s standings (I really hate always drafting first…buh dum bum). So, I did a little research and figured I’d share with you fun ways to choose when it comes to selecting your NFL season-long fantasy football draft order.

Season Long Idea #7 – Homemade Lotto Machine

Now, I have some pretty intelligent friends, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them try and pull this off.  Leaf blower engines, spinning wheels, water cooler tanks, beer, hoses, electricity……what could possibly go wrong?  The idea of making your own lotto machine is as intriguing as looking up the teacher’s skirt (and probably just as dangerous).  I would LOVE it if my friends tried to make this simple dream a reality for us.

Draft Day Idea #6 – Go Kart Racing

I’m not one to encourage drinking and driving, so save the beer until after the race.  But, imagine all 10 of you saddling up your Mario Karts and racing around the track?  Don’t forget two cardinal rules of Go Kart racing for draft picks:  1- First moron to yell “boogity boogity boogity” loses 3 spots automatically for being a cheeseball, and 2- Rubbing IS racing!

Fantasy Draft Idea #5 – Video Game Tournament

We are all competitive.  And, I gotta say I love me some video games!  The concept of playing a single-elimination bracket tourney of a game like Madden 2018 compiles both research and trash talk.  Maybe in this one, the winner gets to pick his draft slot so we don’t get the “tanking” so prevalent in the pro sports these days?  I’m only half kidding here.

Football Draft Idea #4 – Fantasy Golf (The Masters or PGA Championship)

Of course, a neat way to keep the thoughts in your friends’ heads year round is to bet on the other significant sporting events throughout the year.  Fanduel and Draftkings, among other sites, allow you to set up private leagues.  Why not get your buddies to assemble teams around some of these already popular events?  Even the Kentucky Derby or your March Madness brackets are fun ways to determine draft orders.

It just so happens, I know a great place to hone your Daily Fantasy skills, as well.  Check out the DFS Army.  Content, tools, optimizers, and coaching to make you a better player for any sport you would ever want to make your friends compete in.  They win, too.  In some cases, even $100,000 like below!

Order Selection Idea #3 – NFL Combine Style

You’ve heard of the “punt, pass, kick” competitions among friends?  Well, why not crank it up a notch and include vertical, a 10-man 40yd dash (imagine the pulled hammies), and even a mock up Wonderlic Test?  You can get to 10 events easily and go full decathlon with crazy scoring systems IF you dare.

Drafting Season Long Idea #2 – Bags, Washers, Horseshoes, Etc

Whatever you guys do in your spare time is fair game.  Do you have summer barbecues with your friends?  Do you play yard games like Can Jam or Spike Ball?  These are all easy ways to settle your draft order in yet another tournament style way to induce a little extra competition among your friends.

Fantasy Football Draft Idea #1 – Beer Pong

You didn’t think I’d get all the way through this without mentioning a pure drinking game, did you?  Beer Pong is a classic.  Simply put the numbers on the bottom of the “Red Solo Cup” and take your shot.  The cup you land in reveals your draft order once you finish the beer.  Of course, remove the cup from play so you don’t wind up with duplicates.  And, the toughest part of this challenge is deciding on the draft order of the Beer Pong toss.  You might have to play some Beer Pong to determine the order of Beer Pong when you decide it’s time to play Beer Pong for setting your real order.  (If you read Beer Pong five times there, congratulations….you may still drive home.)

Bonus Draft Idea – Full-Fledged Bobbing for Beers…

My brother’s league gave me this idea last year, and it’s about the best I’ve heard of.  You need a large trash can, a lot of Coors Light/Bud Light, and one can each of beer representing a draft order.  For example, Budweiser calls themselves the “King of Beers,” so maybe they represent the #1 pick?  Dos Equis could be #2.  And, so on.

The trick is to have a huge barrel of ice water and the beer cans submerged.  Close your eyes, reach down in there and pull one.  If it’s a representative of a draft spot, you have a decision to make.  You may either A) take your spot and be done, or B) reject the slot, pull a Bud Light and slam it while returning to the end of the line.  If you are unlucky enough to pull a Bud Light straight away, you slam it and just head to the back of the line.  (You obviously institute your own caps on too many beers to keep the game fairly harmless.)  The part that intrigued me most was my brother mentioning how serious guys were taking the idea.  He mentioned “game theory” and settling for less than ideal draft slots to “keep a clear head.”

Season Long Extra Point

These games can obviously get out of control, so some common sense needs to be applied.  But, talk about fun fantasy football draft order ideas! And, what great excuses to do what we all really want to do…..get together with our buddies and just have a good time more often.  If you have other creative ways to settle your draft order, I’d love to hear about them.  Find me on Twitter @Choppodong and let’s discuss.  Good luck this year.  May you dominate your local leagues!!
