MME Playbook Strategy for FanDuel and DraftKings MLB DFS

Donuts to Dollars

The GPP/MME playbook is more or less a foundation to build upon for your Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) tournament strategy and mass-multi entry (MME) adventures. I personally am a full-time MME player across all major platforms each night. The strategy I have laid out for you is where I personally am with how I plan on attacking the slate with my own pool, teams to target, and suggest exposures for your stacks on FanDuel and DraftKings.

MLB DFS Pitching Pool Strategy for MME

Jose Berrios is not someone I am going out of my way to use today in a nice matchup against the visiting Mariners. While his price tag is very affordable I struggle to pay for him when there are viable cheaper options with similar floor and ceiling options. If I am asking the optimizer to pay up, I also prefer it to just jam in Verlander and go from there.

MME Pitchers I’ll give a minimum 5-10% to ensure that they are used

Brandon Woodruff continues to not get respect by the FanDuel and DraftKings pricing algo’s. He’s so good and has such strong K potential. Somehow, he is just mid-tier priced on both sites. Yes, he plays the Astros who woke up yesterday BUT Woodruff has dominated as of late. He has 36 Ks over his last 32 IP and the Astros might carry decent ownership tonight. This means we have a high ceiling pitcher in a leverage situation against Astros stacks. I’m in.

Joey Lucchesi has scored 20.75, 28.60, 24.45, and 13.05 DraftKings points in his last four starts. On FanDuel his price tag is an ELITE bargain, similar to Brandon Woodruff. Lucchesi is still a great option on DK at his price tag, too. He has 27 Ks in his last 25 IP and has given up just 14 hits over that span of innings. That’s unbelievable.

Justin Verlander has the highest floor in all of baseball. I don’t care what his price tag is I am making sure he’s in my player pool. He’s a walking quality start and double-digit strikeout potential arm every single time he takes the mound. He has 30 + DraftKings points in 4 out of his last 5 starts and his FanDuel price tag is easy to use with the pricing of our stacking targets today.

Single Entry GPP Pitchers

With the price on Brandon Woodruff and his upside at his price tag he easily is my #1 GPP pitching option tonight. He is followed closely by the next guy I am about to name. On DraftKings, you can add in someone like Joey Lucchesi with a solid floor and ceiling combination and potentially grab 50 points between the two of them and not pay an arm and a leg for their services.

Specific Daily Fantasy MLB Stacks and Teams to Target for Stacking for GPPs and MME

When I select my stacks I like to run through the trending tab, batter matchups tab, top-10 lists for a bunch of different stats, pricing differential, and the top rated players within the Research Station. I set the FanDuel stacks to 4-3 and the DraftKings stacks to 5-2 in the DFS Army optimizer.

Tier 1 MLB Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings

These are the teams I want to stack with my highest exposure. Whether you decide to use the controlled stacks (example below) or the randomized stack exposure (as I do, the example provided), I’ll have my highest percentage on the Tier 1 teams). Daily fantasy sports are not just about being contrarian. A key strategy is to also have contrarian exposure to your plays.

Baltimore Orioles 50-75%

The opposing pitcher, Edwin Jackson has looked like a shell of himself this season. Over his last two starts he has allowed a 98 MPH exit velocity and a 57% hard hit rate. Yikes! In his past 19.2 IP he’s given up 26 ERs and 8 HR while allowing 44 men to reach base. I mean saying he’s bad is the understatement of the century. Pitcher normally don’t turn it around in a blink of an eye, there normally are small indicators that they’re about to right the ship. Edwin has none of those right now.

Minnesota Twins 50-75%

It looks like Tommy Milone will either be starting or the long reliever who will come in after the opener pitches an inning or two. When he does enter the game the Twins instantly become my favorite team on the slate. Literally their entire lineup (depending on who is in it) will have an ISO over .200 against left-handed pitcher. Add onto that the fact that Tommy Milone has been one of baseballs worst pitchers over the last few seasons and I expect fireworks.

Tier 2 MLB Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings

These are the teams I am generally using to hedge my pitcher investment and/or don’t have a clear read on what might happen but understand extreme outcomes are possible. My strategy is to have the volatile stacks paired with the Tier 1 stacks that have a higher success rate.

Atlanta Braves 30-50%

They just keep smashing the ball and blasting home runs. Their implied run total sits at 5.4 and they are -209 favorites right now. Mitch Keller looked completely overmatched in his spot start against the Reds on May 27th, allowing 6 ERs in just 4.0 IP. The red hot Braves bats could break the slate here tonight.

Saint Louis Cardinals 20-40%

Opposing pitcher Jordan Yamamoto has looked great in AA ball this season in the Minors for the Marlins. The Cardinals have power up and down their lineup and while I don’t think it’s entirely probably that they’ll explode the potential is there against a guy that has never pitched in the Majors or high-A ball.

Toronto Blue Jays 20-40%

I can’t stand stacking the Blue Jays hitters because this team has such a low probability of reaching their potential. They just never put it together. However, they face David Hess who is very home run prone and they get a nice park upgrade playing in Baltimore. The Orioles have a wretched bullpen, too, meaning if they steamroll Hess then they’ll get a superb full 9 innings of at-bats (they are on the road so they are guaranteed Top 9th even in a blowout).

This is my personal strategy to use the DFS Army Domination Station optimizer for MLB MME

  1. Cut all pitchers out of my player pool that I know I 100% DO NOT WANT

    1. Add in all the pitchers I am okay with the optimizer using and then put 3-5% minimum exposure on my favorite pitchers (the above pitching pool). This ensures that they show up in at least 7-10 out of my 150 lineups.
  2. Identify all teams I want to stack

    1. If using controlled stacks then create my player pool of hitters for MME
    2. If using the randomized stacks (which I do) then I begin to create percentages for all my favorite teams to target adding up to 160-180%
    3. Leave 20-40% stack exposure to allow the optimizer to fill in some random optimized stacks according to your pitcher pool to have some unbiased lineups
  3. Prepare my 150 entry settings

    1. 3 uniques
    2. optimal mode
    3. DFS Army points
    4. Make sure allow opposing pitchers is unchecked
    5. Maximum exposure cap of 60% is how I roll with it. The higher the exposure cap the more “all-in” you will be on a player or two (which I am not a fan of for MLB right now)
    6. Set random stack setting to 4-3 for FanDuel and 5-2 for DraftKings
  4. Run the optimizer
    1. Look at the batters used in the stacks. Did I create 100 Houston lineups and only get 5 George Springers? Okay, use the like/love/adore buttons or boost his projection until I get more of him. Did I get 50 out of 50 Boston stacks with Jackie Bradley and no J.D. Martinez? Boost Martinez and potentially use the dislike buttons on Bradley until he’s a bit lower and Martinez is involved.
    2. You have to tinker a bit to get the higher upside guys sometimes ^^^
  5. Re-run the optimizer until you get what you’re looking for
    1. Go watch Netflix until the games are over and your daily fantasy sports entries are final
    2. Make a plate of chips and salsa, too
