Hunting Homers – DFS MLB Power Picks and Homeruns for Higher Fanduel and Draftkings Scores – May 26

Welcome to a test version of a future MLB article from your friends at DFS Army.  The goal of this piece will be to find those homeruns that boost your DFS scores and have you leapfrogging leaderboard spots in bunches.  We will focus solely on power numbers for both bats and pitchers, and we will largely center around the ISO metric indicating raw power.

All numbers cited are produced for VIPs daily inside our MLB Research Station.  We may cross-reference some with Trends tabs, Pitching Hubs, and various other stats, but we largely focus on the hitter’s ISO and the pitcher’s ISO against.  We aim to find strength on weakness, so let’s dive in for today’s quick HR Hunting plays…

#200on200 MLB Picks for May 26

David Hess – Hess is just a stick of dynamite on paper.  And in Coors?  His 49% fly ball rate is a tad alarming.  I also can’t help but think his 2.36 HR/9 will go up after today’s visit.  He gives an ISO of .275 to lefties and .244 to righties coupled with a 5.13 SIERA.  Everywhere I look I see trouble.  I’d be all over the Colorado bats of Arenado, Story, Iannetta, Blackmon, Murphy, Dahl, and Tapia.  If I could run a 6stack out I would.

Take a peek at our Colorado batters facing Hess.  All the numbers are right there for you when you unlock our premium content…

Zack Eflin – The Zack Attack (Saved by the Bell reference) gives up a .223 ISO to left handed bats.  And, when I look at Milwaukee lefties, I see some scary dudes carrying their own ISOs over .250, except Grandal with his still impressive .235ish.  Brew Crew hitters – Yelich, Moustakas, Thames, and Grandal are easy targets and might be a smidge contrarian away from the obvious spot in Coors….if on the same slate on your site.

Caleb Smith – Caleb has been great and might even be your pitcher today, but he does have a weakness apparently….205 ISO to righties.  He also suggests he can get a little loosey-goosey with the control by showing us a 3.44 BB/9.  A little gpp-only, but Washington bats I’d target are Rendon (still stupid .323 ISO and .429 woba to Smith’s handedness), Robles, Dozier, Suzuki or Yan Gomes.

Remember to ensure your bats are in the starting lineup.  I’m mentioning my sheet as inclusively as possible and am not looking at starting lineups being released.  It is your responsibility to cross check with other research and to make sure your hitters of choice don’t come blindly off someone’s list.  You need to make sure they are not injured and they are actually going to see at bats today.

Erik Fedde – Fedde gives us a .203 ISO to lefties, a 3.87 BB/9, and a very high 1.55 WHIP.  Again, suggesting control can get away from him and lead to big innings.  If those big innings come with some pop from the higher ISO bats in MIA………….wait….I can’t even say that with a straight face.  I might use Granderson, but there isn’t a lot of ISO in that lineup making me want to roster Marlins bats like crazy.  I might take one here or there, but I’m not just blindly stacking them up.

Dylan Covey – Another pitcher with an assortment of numbers working against him.  .199 ISO vs lefties, 5.24 SIERA (pretty gross), and an xwoba against of .414 from lefties and .467 from righties.  Look for those Minnesota Twins hitters to have yet another exciting day.  Being the fastest team this year to hit 100 team HRs, I expect them to add to that total vs Covey.  I’m targeting – Eddie Rosario, Kepler, Arraez (deep value play if starting), and Jack Cave (great punt if starting).  Others like Sano are great, but don’t hit the paper radar in this article.  But, I’d suspect they hit plenty of other concentrated searches in your digging.

MLB Honorable Mentions

Here are a few other pitchers to watch tonight that just didn’t give the ISO against I’m looking for in this particular article…

Roark – .425 xwoba to lefties
Bauer – .388 xwoba to lefties
Leake – .363 to L, .394 to R
Archer – .399 xwoba to righties

*This #200on200 thing is just one parameter in which you might look through the RS for when choosing thunder bats*.  When you find one of your own, feel free to tweet me @Choppodong or @dfsarmy on Twitter, and let’s have some fun with this metric!

Obviously, there are many other MLB coaching notes, methodologies, and processes to evaluate. But, ISO given up by a pitcher to the power ISO of a bat just makes logical sense and is here to point out great matchups………..not predict results. In conjunction with other factors, though, you can really find some 5-star matchups tonight and put yourself in a great position to accumulate some points in bunches. Try it tonight.

(One way to crosscheck this number is to look at L7 woba (in Trends tab of our Research Station) and see who is also hitting well recently. I would be less excited about some great #200on200 guy hitting .150 woba over the last week than if I found some guy hitting a .500 and tearing the cover off the ball when he finds this kind of matchup tonight.)
