Donuts to Dollars MME Playbook for FanDuel and DraftKings MLB DFS: 5/15

Donuts to Dollars

The GPP/MME playbook is more or less a foundation to build upon for your DFS tournament strategy and mass-multi entry (MME) adventures. I personally am a full-time MME player across all major platforms each night. The strategy I have laid out for you is where I personally am with how I plan on attacking the slate.

Hit me up on Twitter  @DFSnDONUTS and you can also find me on YouTube | Twitch  | iTunes with supplemental commentary and teaching. You’ll really find me in our VIP coaching forums inside coaching and detailing plays and strategic concepts from contest selection to lineup construction across all our main sports.

MLB DFS Pitching Pool for MME

Patrick Corbin is volatile when he loses his control. He can rack up walks in a hurry. This seems like one of those spots where he looks like he’s in a good spot and then goes out there and ruins your lineups. Luckily for us, we are going to just have him in our MME pool. He has 34 Ks in 31.2 IP and has given up just 22 hits. It’s alarming that he has allowed 11 batters to walk against him in his last 18 IP.

Kenta Maeda looked sharp in his last start and actually has only allowed 9 hitters to reach base over his last two starts (12 IP). He struck out 12 hitters during those two games as well. The Padres are a team I target with right-handed pitchers and Maeda is set up nicely for the quality start (if they allow him to go 90 pitches) and a potential win bonus.

Justin Verlander is on the slate so yes, he’s in my player pool. The Tigers are not good against righties and they have just a 3.4 IRT and he’s a MASSIVE -355 favorite. He’s clearly the top cash game option if you can afford him and I would suggest to roll with Maeda if you need the discount. His 11.71 SO/9 rate is higher than anybody else on the slate.

Eduardo Rodriguez is pitching well this season and belongs in our pool. I will not put a minimum percentage on him like the others but he has upside in a difficult matchup. E-Rod is volatile though and I’ll be sure to hedge my investment with some Rockies stacks tonight as well even with their 4.0 IRT and underdog line.

MME Pitchers I’ll give a minimum 3-5%

Jose Urena is a +174 underdog against Tampa. What in the world am I thinking? Well, he’s pitched alright this season and at his cheap price tag he does have some upside if Tampa doesn’t show up. He has held opposing hitters to a 28% hard hit rate over his last three games and has scored 31, 15, 31, 34, and 43 FanDuel points and averaged 15 DraftKings points per game in his five starts this year.

German Marquez faces a tough Boston team and should be low-owned. He has a 10.473 SO/9 rate and although he pitches half of his games in Coors Field, he has a 47.4% quality start rate which is second to only Justin Verlander on this slate. He rarely gets shelled and has upside for days. Despite the tough matchup, he’s in the pool.

Mike Soroka faces a team that just put up a billion runs on Tuesday in the St. Louis Cardinals. He’ll be super low-owned due to recency bias and the fact that he will be over looked due to the other options on the slate. He has scored 14.10, 16.45, 23.95, 28.50, and 28.15 in his five starts. He has tremendous upside at his current bargain of a price tag.

Mike Minor was finally derailed after he gave up 7 hits and 3 walks over just 5 IP. The thing is, he did that against a supernova hot team in the Houston Astros and allowed just 3 ER and 1 HR. That’s actually not bad for a lefty against them. Tonight he faces another team with a bit less power but equally as pesky.

Single Entry GPP Pitchers

The love affair with Mike Minor by the Twitter scouts was halted last game against the Astros. I’ve seen nothing about him today on social media or in anybody else’s content around the web. Minor has tremendous upside and received a massive $2,100 price drop on FanDuel!

Specific Daily Fantasy MLB Stacks and Teams to Target for Stacking for GPPs and MME

When I select my stacks I like to run through the trending tab, batter matchups tab, top-10 lists for a bunch of different stats, and the top rated players within the Research Station. I set the FanDuel stacks to 4-3 and the DraftKings stacks to 5-2 in the DFS Army optimizer.

Tier 1 Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings

These are the teams I want to stack with my highest exposure. Whether you decide to use the controlled stacks (example below) or the randomized stack exposure (as I do, the example provided), I’ll have my highest percentage on the Tier 1 teams).

Houston Astros (60-80%)

Another left-handed pitcher is being sacrificed to the Astros offense that has just gone supernova on pitchers as of late. The implied run total for Houston opened at 6.2 runs and has since jumped to 6.7 runs. It’s going to be a blood bath. I am not going to get cute here and they are my only Tier 1 team.

See our Wall of Wins

Tier 2 Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings

These are the teams I am generally using to hedge my pitcher investment and/or don’t have a clear read on what might happen but understand extreme outcomes are possible.

Boston Red Sox (20-30%)

While Marquez rarely gets shelled he is in Boston against a hot-hitting Red Sox team full of solid hitters. The top half of this lineup can get hot in a hurry and if they do you’ll hope you have Red Sox stacked with Astros today.

Texas Rangers (20-30%)

Another team that can hit a bunch of bombs and they have plenty of left-handed hitters that can take advantage of the matchup against Jorge Lopez. They have a 5.1 IRT and are a great spot to explode.

Atlanta Braves (20-30%)

They have a 5.1 IRT and face off against a volatile Michael Wacha. The Braves lineup has cooled down considerably as of late but they still have a strong lineup with plenty of left-handed hitters (4-5 if Brian McCann starts).

Philadelphia Phillies (20-30%)

Gio Gonzalez is average at best and the Phillies can absolutely mash the ball when they’re in the zone. If they get to the Brewers pen early this could be a slate winning team to stack.

Milwaukee Brewers (10-20%)

Jake Arrieta has not been bad this season and the Brewers are volatile. I have expected more from this team thus far with less stinkers in their production. They do have plenty of power on the left-side of the plate today and could see them getting to Jake early.

Tampa Bay Rays (10-20%)

I really like Jose Urena today but am not stupid enough to not hedge with the Rays. Austin Meadows being the lineup really helps Tampa out and they’re a different team with and without him.

Remaining Exposure Percentage

Any remaining exposure percentage that is leftover I am going to allow the optimizer to fill in at random. Baseball is incredibly volatile and hard to predict. While we can project outcomes, predicting them is inherently a losing battle. Allowing the DS to plug in stacks embraces the random factor that MLB DFS has to offer.

Or if you want to have controlled stacks and select the specific players you want to be used and in what type of stacks then you can used the controlled hitter stack setting. This is just an example and I randomly clicked through quickly and was able to pump out 50 lineups in a flash. I would also make sure the stack percentage was at 100% on each side for a real optimized CSV file.

Domination Station DFS Optimizer for GPP’s and Mass-Multi Entering (MME)

This is how I personally use the DFS Army Domination Station optimizer for MLB MME

  1. Cut all pitchers out of my player pool that I know I 100% DO NOT WANT

    1. Add in all the pitchers I am okay with the optimizer using and then put 3-5% minimum exposure on my favorite pitchers (the above pitching pool). This ensures that they show up in at least 7-10 out of my 150 lineups.
  2. Identify all teams I want to stack

    1. If using controlled stacks then create my player pool of hitters for MME
    2. If using the randomized stacks (which I do) then I begin to create percentages for all my favorite teams to target adding up to 160-180%
    3. Leave 20-40% stack exposure to allow the optimizer to fill in some random optimized stacks according to your pitcher pool to have some unbiased lineups
  3. Prepare my 150 entry settings

    1. 3 uniques
    2. optimal mode
    3. DFS Army points
    4. Make sure allow opposing pitchers is unchecked
    5. Maximum exposure cap of 60% is how I roll with it. The higher the exposure cap the more “all-in” you will be on a player or two (which I am not a fan of for MLB right now)
    6. Set random stack setting to 4-3 for FanDuel and 5-2 for DraftKings
  4. Run the optimizer
    1. Look at the batters used in the stacks. Did I create 100 Houston lineups and only get 5 George Springers? Okay, use the like/love/adore buttons or boost his projection until I get more of him. Did I get 50 out of 50 Boston stacks with Jackie Bradley and no J.D. Martinez? Boost Martinez and potentially use the dislike buttons on Bradley until he’s a bit lower and Martinez is involved.
    2. You have to tinker a bit to get the higher upside guys sometimes ^^^
  5. Re-run the optimizer until you get what you’re looking for
    1. Go watch Netflix until the games are over
    2. Make a plate of chips and salsa, too
