Forslund’s Full Mount – UFC 236 Cash Game Winning Picks Advice For Draftkings – Apr 13

Welcome back after a short 1 week break.  The UFC is rewarding us with a great, 13 fight card taking place in Atlanta, Georgia.  Draftkings has rolled out some solid payouts in tournaments with this being a PPV and I will be doing some tournament chasing.   Be sure to cover yourself and have plenty of action in cash games to offset this if you are planning on doing the same thing.  I often hear people complain about not making any profit on a week to week basis in MMA.  I can’t stress enough how important it is have safety and enter some cash games.

For you 1st time readers, welcome and I hope you enjoy the article.  For all you regular readers, you will notice a change.  Moving forward I am  going to gear this article for cash games.  If you want my full thoughts on the entire card, you can find them in our MMA coaches notes Yes, I know everyone wants to win that big tournament win!  But a major point we make here at DFS Army is proper bankroll management.  A major part of that is, of course, cash games.  It may not be the sexiest way to build your bankroll but, over time it can be the most consistent.  I would love to hear any feedback on this new format, and I look forward to helping everyone learn the art of creating a solid cash game lineup.

We have been on a huge run in all sports at DFS Army!  Plus the new NASCAR season has started off right where we left off last season.  We just had a huge win by a member last Saturday in MMA!   You name the sport we cover it!  If you want to join in on the winning use promo code “FORSLUND” to save 20% on your membership.

As always have some fun in tournaments this week.  Just remember the Golden Rule!  While chasing after the big payout is enticing always remember bankroll management.  I am a firm believer in the 80-20 rule.  Which is 80% of your allocated bankroll for the night in cash games and 20% in tournaments.  Remember to take advantage of our Research Station and Domination Station.  Plus check out the podcast, and follow me on Twitter (@MMACashAssassin) for the latest MMA and DFS Army news!

For those of you new to MMA here is a breakdown of the scoring used on Draftkings.

MMA Cash Game Basics for DFS

In cash games, unlike tournaments, we are trying to build a solid floor with our lineups.  Many times that may mean using a fighter with great odds to win a match or taking someone who is severely mispriced in a solid spot.  Cash games are often times card dependent.  For example, if a fighter is expected to be chalky in cash games and I feel they are in a good spot I have no problem eating the chalk and just rostering him.  After all, he’s chalky for a solid reason.  One major difference between cash and tournament play is getting past your aversion to play the chalk.  Often times, the chalk makes a lot of sense.  (I’m going to use the word “chalk” a lot, if new, chalk is slang for “popular player.”)  If, you ever have any questions pertaining to cash games feel free to reach out to me on Twitter or if you are a VIP shoot me a dm.

DFS MMA UFC 236 Cash Core Plays

Montel Jackson (-525) 9.4k

It’s scary to think that Jackson has only been in the sport of MMA for just over a year.  I don’t think he has come close to reaching his full potential.  With each fight you can see him growing by leaps and bounds.  This week he is the highest priced fighter on draftings and carries the best odds to win.  Jackson has shown the ability in his previous fights to land at a decent rate (3.12 Significant Strikes per minute) and land takedowns (1.8 per fight).   The only thing we have to worry about from his opponent (Soukhamthath) is his knockout power.  It’s not nearly, enough to get me off Jackson.  He has a good floor and enough upside for me to be considered a lock for me in my cash games.

Belal Muhammad (-140) 8.5k

I love to target fighters that have the ability to land takedowns in my cash lineups whenever possible.  Muhammad is no exception.  Not only does he land 2.18 takedowns (TD’s) per fight he also land 4.57 Significant Strikes (SS’s) per minute.  Looking at the odds Muhammad might not look like the best cash play.  His opponent (Millender) is coming into this fight having lost just over 1 month ago.  Millender showed in his last fight the inability to stop the TD.  I just don’t think that’s something you can correct in just 1 month.  There are multiple ways Muhammad can win this fight.  Even if the fight goes to decision in a win Muhammad should easily meet value.

Max Holloway (-210) 9.1k / Dustin Poirier (+175) 7.1k

Consider yourselves lucky this week with a 2 for 1 cash play.  This is the main event and is scheduled for 5 rounds and could very well be an instant classic.  Both fighters land at a ridiculous volume (Holloway 6.9 SS’s and Poirier 5.59 SS’s per minute).  In cash games I am stacking this one and moving on.  I typically look for my stacks to get 120+ draftkings points to be considered cash viable for me.  That’s on the very conservative side in this match-up.  We could realistically be looking at a 200+ combined draftkings score with this stack.  Don’t overthink this one.  Let others force make the mistake and only play one of these two.  We are here to build and safe floor and win money.  The smart play is locking this stack in and count your money at the end of the night!

Sure, these are MY favorite cash game plays, but maybe you play GPPs or like others.  That’s fine…..you need tools, though.  Our MMA Research Station is locked and loaded with every related statistic in an easy to read, color coded fashion that cuts your research time down.  It allows several fighters, like the ones I mentioned, to really pop at you and make DFS life easier.  But, to access this beast, you need to become a member at DFSA…

And, if you are already a member, we have podcasts related to this UFC MMA card, as well as premium articles breaking down strategy and advice even further to #RaiseYourEdge over your competition.  I’m sure you’ve seen our army helmets all over the leaderboards.  We have not one, not two, but THREE of the top-ranked MMA players in the world coaching our members up on a weekly basis and helping them become better MMA DFS players.  See Marley’s UFC Breakdown article here.

Fight To Target In Hybrids/Tournaments

Now that we covered some cash plays.  Let’s breakdown 1 fight I really think you should get exposure to in your hybrid and tournament lineups.

Jalin Turner (-125) 8.4k vs Matt Frevola (+105) 7.8k

We have several fights to target in the mid-range this card.  This one being my favorite of that group.  Plus throw in the fact that this fight has the highest odds to end Inside The Distance (-365) and we have all the makings of a fight to get high exposure (potentially 100% exposure to for me) to on draftkings in tournaments.  If, I had to pick a side it would be Turner.  He is the more experienced fighter and 7 of his 8 wins have been by way of knockout.  Overall this is a great fight to get heavy exposure to in tournaments and with both fighters being so cheap allows you the flexibility to do what you want with the remainder of your tournament lineups.
